Ladies and gentlemen, the NHL is officially dead. It has committed suicide.

The union presented a reasonable offer and the owners responded by going back on EVERYTHING they had agreed to this week. I hope someone goes full Todd Bertuzzi, Marty McSorley AND Raffi Torres on their asses.

Bettman can burn in hell.

Daly can live, we'll just bust his knees.

Jacobs can be dropped in the Mariana Trench

Leopold can be tossed into a frozen Minnesota lake.

Am I missing anyone?

/The players union will either decertify or disclaim interest by Monday at the latest.
//And they should, so they can take the owners to the cleaners.
///Thanks NHL for making me waste my time and hard earned money on this sport just to be treated like sh*t again.

Say what you want, at least Buttman comes with it in his press conferences. I'm convinced Fehr is holding this whole thing back... farking snake oil salesman.

Wearing my Bruins shirt in mourning tonight, and even I feel dirty for doing it.

Apparently, the union's offer today was framed as a "take it or leave it" offer. If true, that's really f*cking stupid and again, Don Fehr has destroyed a sport.

And there's this from Pierre LeBrun's ESPN column tonight.

One NHL governor told ESPN.com that they were shown both offers from the league and NHLPA in the board of governors meeting.

"I looked at them both and wondered how this thing isn't done already," he said.

And those were previous offers. Not the ones from the past 24 hours that showed more movement from both sides.

Isn't that what we've all thought for at least the past month?

And now I see this article from The Globe and Mail which seems to frame the whole thing like they're trying to pass legislation in Congress.

Has any major sports commissioner ever had TWO FULL seasons die on his watch?

Bettman's the only commish to have ONE FULL season die on his watch.

/Only twice has labor issues prevented a league championship from being awarded
//Baseball's 1994 players strike (led by Don Fehr) and the 2004-05 NHL lockout

Fark Jeremy Jacobs, that carpetbagger. Decide for yourself if you want to avoid doing business with anything Delaware North is involved in.

Sadly, the only way Bettman will leave is if the major corporate NHL sponsors collectively say "Thanks for destroying the fans' goodwill and, with it, the value of being associated with the league" and pull their funding away... then see how quickly the owners start rethinking things.

You don't become a successful businessman by taking on the financial responsibility for your team let alone revenue sharing then giving away over half your profits to the guy breaking 3 sticks a practice before his team masseuse appointment.

I can't remember where I saw this, but there was an article earlier this week saying that corporate sponsors do have some sort of refund clause in their contracts with the league for game cancellations. Kraft was mentioned in it and I think Molson Coors was as well. So don't think that what you said isn't possible. I'd say it's actually quite probable and I'd throw the TV partners into that mix as well, at least in Canada. NBC Sports needs all the content they can get so they're not likely to go that route.
