I dunno. Seeing some pictures of Bigelow you say, "Oh hell yes!" In others, you say, "Probably not." She can be stunning in some instances and borderline ugly in others.

I like it. A lot of people like it. I've seen negative reactions on Fark, mainly from former service men pointing out it's flaws. They probably have merit, but the movie is full of really good and suspenseful scenes. Some others blurt out the word vignettes like its supposed to be negative.

Watch it. Even if you don't like it, you're probably won't think of it as time wasted.

She is a great director. I've been trying to think of a male counterpart to her and I can't think of anyone. Her movies are usually character driven and what characters. Her movies also usually have a high body count.

As people have mentioned, she's directed Point Break, Strange Days and The Hurt Locker. But, personally, my favorite of hers is Near Dark. Bill Paxton and Lance Henriksen as part of a psychopathic, redneck family of vampires. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I couldn't get through that book. The endless descriptions of friggin' clothing drove me insane, and I couldn't concentrate on what was happening.

Strange Days is an underrated film. Yeah, it's full of early 90's Y2K paranoia, but it's still a fun watch.

The opening scene is brilliantly shot.

The way I saw it, The Hurt Locker is a drug flick disguising itself as a war movie. You have this addict who is willing to do anything, go down the deepest lows, even to the point of almost willing to die in order to get his fix, which is the adrenaline rush. The fact that he chose the rush over his son as the only thing he could really ever love completely with the movie ending with him heading back into the metaphoric drug den illustrates this.

Such a great film. I still think of it as the best example of cyberpunk film. It even has all the tropes of a Willam Gibson novel: fringe technology, a cynical hustler protagonist, a strong, street-smart chick, both trying to keep sensitive data from falling into the wrong hands. Really worth a watch to anyone who hasn't seen it.

I thought it fell apart a bit in the third act, but overall I really enjoyed it. It's been quite a long time since I've seen it, though.

And for the record I really liked "The Hurt Locker." It may have its faults but there is a pretty good level of intensity throughout most of that film.

From what I gather, if you're a military person you'll feel the same way about The Hurt Locker as I feel whenever someone uses a computer in a movie*. Other than that, it's quite good.

I agree with David Foster Wallace's assement that the movie did a much better job depicting the story as the slapstick cartoonish black comedy it should've been. The novel was just 2 dimensional cliche of mean spiritedness and grotesqueness just for the sake of grotesqueness. Like the weird 6 year old boy who realizes he can get a attention and squeels from girls by picking his nose and dangling a booger in front of their faces.

I read Less Than Zero and The Rules of Attraction after seeing the film adaptation of the latter, and I didn't really like them. I liked the latter film, but the characters in the books were just unbearably dispassionate. It's hard to care about characters that are incapable of caring about anything or anyone. That seems to be all he knows how to write: dispassionate people, doing things and not caring.

Yep, that's always been my issue with his books. I don't need my protagonists to always wear unblemished white, but at least make them identifiable. I recognize nothing in his books with me or anyone I know. Reading page after page after page of characters who's only motive is having no motive just gets stale and tedious
