No, it's actually pro-social. It's anti-social network.

Which is exactly the problem with those who take offense to the ads. But, fine by me. One less of you twits out there driving and texting.

I think Ric Romero may have already done a story about how people don't like to be criticized for doing things they enjoy, but I'm too busy browsing Fark to look it up.

Toyota has already been using this angle for their Venza ads. Makes sense that they'd branch it out to their Lexus line.

I'm pretty sure it's only the SUVs and the ES that are based on Toyota models. Maybe that new hybrid hatchback is too. The IS, GS, and LS are all Lexus only. Audi and Acura are even worse for just selling upgraded standard models. And just about everyone just modifies 2-3 platforms and churns out eight different models.

Marketing is really easy to figure out. Identify what needs to be sold, mitigate competition and create a call to action. Makes no difference if you're selling Starbucks or the US Army.

What does Lexus make? Cars. What competes with driving you car? Sitting inside. What calls you to get in the car? Going to meet people. If more people get a life, demand for cars goes up.

Perhaps I'm missing the complicated bit.

What's worse is watching the ads by those folks skate the whole "buy this geegaw, get laid" angle, doing their best to equate their goods with the procurement of sex without actually coming out and saying it.

No, Lexus is actually a quality car brand. Mercedes are badly engineered cars with a V8 and a $30,000 price bump from a company that leeches off of the fame gained during a time when it was an accomplishment for a car to start every morning.

Asian-Americans love Lexus. The Chinese buy Audi/VW's and Buicks, they used to buy Japanese cars also, but right now the two countries are posturing over a few islands in the middle of nowhere.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they aren't nice. They are engineered well, reliable, and have decent mpg considering. Those are all hallmarks of Japanese cars.

I was simply commenting on the fact that you are paying Mercedes prices for what amounts to a ginned up Corolla with a nice interior and the same bells and whistles any sedan comes with. And in LA at least, most people are completely unaware of the pedigree.

Non-story. December is traditionally a really slow time for auto news and all sites that focus on cars start grasping for "stories" to fill content.

3 shut-ins defending a website hardly indicates outrage.
