I don't know, but if I *did* smoke pot, that would be the *FIRST* damn strain I'd go for.

/Think this is an awesome law, and despite not partaking myself, think it's ridiculous that it has taken us this long to decriminalize something that has been repeatedly and overwhelmingly shown to be no more harmful or addicting than alcohol or tobacco.

Seattle was already the best city in the country. This is just setting the bar even higher.

2012-12-06 09:20:13 AM
The government doesn't want states enforcing federal laws when it comes to immigration yet it wants them to enforce federal laws about weed.

Looks like this is gonna eventually end up bad for either illegals or stoners. Illegal stoners are farked.

Yet in California, we not only vote down legalizing marijuana, but are ok with Obama's goon squad coming in and shutting down our legal marijuana dispensaries.

We're not even cool anymore.

While there is some room for debate on the level of to pot, it does not come anywhere near as addictive as booze, or tobacoo, or oxy, or heroin, or coke, or even the physiological response to a constant diet of fat and salt.

We can debate that pot in not the solution, but I can't buy that it's the problem anymore.

We don't actually know the consequences of this yet.

It takes a long time to see how our actions pan out.

In another generation or two, we'll have to see how this affected Seattle.

There's a whole lot of reasons why Seattle is the best city in the country, but SPD ain't one of them. Bunch of thugs, generally.

And this is state law, anyway, so it's the best state in the Union, tied with Colorado.

No, but less stoned people going to PMITA prison for smoking a weed.... yup... makes them pretty awesome in fact.

HindiDiscoMonster: No, but less stoned people going to PMITA prison for smoking a weed....

And what will the results of that be?

Some would say that drug use correlates highly with other crimes, because it appeals to people with an ethic of convenience.

Fewer people going to prison is not proof that the plan is better, no matter how much you wish it was.

All people outside the city hear is stories of police brutality against peaceful anarchists that are smashing storefront windows and forcefully arresting people that their only crime was commiting a felony. Cops are bad mmkay.

Fast food, dishwashers and ATMs also "appeal to people with an ethic of convenience." That, in itself, establishes nothing. If you have some evidence to suggest that legalizing pot specifically correlates with an upswing in other crimes, then you'll have an argument. Without that, not so much.

And yes, having fewer people in prison is a good thing. It's not "proof that the plan is better" by itself- but it's definitely a point in its favor.

FARK YOU, Subby!

Drug use doesn't make a city great. How is this a benchmark for the quality of a civilization?

loudboy: Drug use doesn't make a city great. How is this a benchmark for the quality of a civilization?

Yes, drug use does not make a city great (unless those drugs are perfectly legal of course, but that doesn't make it great, just law abiding).

A state voting against the will of the federal government and having a city follow through with the state laws and not the federal laws does however.

The illegality of pot has been put into question. The population of a state has deemed that pot is not an illegal substance, thus disagreeing with the federal government. While some people clamored on about succession and states rights, this is a real challenge to the federal government about states rights. It is now up to the federal government to either stand by their convictions and show that they are a greater power then "the people", or admit they are wrong.

Seattle is a city of dickbags. Close-minded, clap-having, fixed gear riding, bad music liking dickbags. I'd burn the whole place to the ground if I could, just to salt the earth so nothing ever grew there again.

Exactly. America should be proud to have a higher percentage of its population in jail than any other industrialized nation. Why do people fail to treat this as a point of pride?

I read that something like 10% of the people in prison for drug crimes are there for marijuana alone.

While not trivial, pot legalization won't make a big difference in the prison population.
