That always helps.What DOES help in situations like this is trying to say the same thing again in a DIFFERENT way whenever you think the person you are talking to might not have understood what you meant. So in the second example ("Not on the agenda!"), the American should have tried saying things like "computer network" or just "computers" instead of saying "system" over and over.Though to be fair, he did say "new computer system" the second time. Still, there are ways it could have been handled better.
