Incredible. Not only have I learned even more that Earth is rapt with beauty unchallenged, I have also learned that baby cheetahs are adorable when they yawn

It reminds me of my journey to the wilds of Afghanistan. We lost our corkscrew and had to survive on nothing but food and water for several days.

Breathtaking. The M83 ditty helped immensely.

That was pretty cool, and a great support for owning a helicopter. Earlier my page decided to go back button and lost my comment. I had some smart-ass comment about oil and the animals, I don't think I'll reproduce it.

pretty video.

Pretty much this. I'll also mention that a very big chunk of the first half is ripped straight from "Planet Earth" which is infinitely better in its entirety than this video.

All you farkers posting 'Seen it on other shows' are completely missing the farking point. You double down by posting about it.

actually no, he makes it just fine.

I remember the first time I watched the Planet Earth series. It was like a religious experience for me. I was in total awe of the beauty they captured. A lot of hard work went into that. and it's probably my favorite of all my blu rays.

Except I'm really not impressed. Seeing snippits from a much better overall showcase of Planet Earth (appropriately titled Planet Earth) and then being capped off with xtreme sports isn't my idea of an entertaining video to watch. Sitting through the entire 6 minutes, I feel that it's okay for me to make that assessment.

I appreciate Earth and all of its magnificant beauty. So sure, this video might've briefly encouraged me to reflect upon that. In general, though, it just didn't do anything for me. I honestly don't see how you can have a problem with somebody expressing their opinion, especially when they at least attempt to explain their reasoning.

Well, you've explained your reasoning but you're the first. I just think it's kind of threadshiatting to take the time to post 'Meh'-like comments. I've seen better videos than this too, but, that doesn't detract from the video, nor does it become a cause.

Fair enough. I'm now itching to watch some of my BBC Planet Earth collection on Blu Ray when I get home, so I'll definitely give the video credit there.

If it's a post video advert it's blended pretty seamlessly. I had it too. Went from being beautiful to annoying.

2012-12-06 06:10:24 AM
The first half of this video was so super cute and awesome, but then the extreme sports shows up.
Extreme sports made the video seem more like a lead in to the X games. (Athletes training in the open wilderness.)

I'm a sucker for baby animals, cool vistas, and soulful music. But that video lacked any noticible organization.

Ocean, penguin, human, cheetah, avalanche, baby duck, beach...

Did some intern find the video suite on the T: drive again?

Typical Let's-Cut-And-Paste-From-Other-People's-Works-And-Promote-It-To-Get-Cl icks lameness. Complete with a cheesy soundtrack, amateur editing including parts with wrong aspect ratio, and assholes who contaminate pristine wildlife with their motorcycles.

This. I wouldn't be so cynical about it if the video hadn't specifically put in a comment about "getting lost in nature". 'Cause yeah, the first thing I think of when I think of a beautiful, unspoiled landscape is a motorbike roaring through and ripping the shiat out of the land.

There does not seems to be a lot of grown women on Earth, I prefer Barsoom.

A few awesome but well known video segments. Many not at all awesome video segments. A shiatty choice for music. A shiatty edit.

Does not make a pure awesome video.

THIS

But I had a thought: What if you did footage like this in a James Bond chase sequence? That would be Intense Sprinkles on top of Awesome Sauce...

And none of it was about owning anything.

That was beautiful. Just beautiful. Let's keep it that way.

2012-12-06 10:41:10 AM
I remember when people could sit through an hour long doc on one subject. Then Planet Earth proved people actually only want maybe three minutes on one topic before going to the next thing. Turns out it's actually 10 seconds, tops.

2012-12-06 10:57:42 AM
I'm not sure how they got the shot of the avalanche but some camera man out there has giant balls of steel.

Actually, if you want to see a video that shows the power and awe of nature, trythis, I get goosebumps every time. Crank up them 'phones and toggle the HD.

Seriously, meh.

An overproduced, quick-cut music video of other people's photography.

The natural world is beautiful if you take the time to appreciate it. No need to sully it with this split-second, TV ad-style garbage editing.

2012-12-06 01:53:59 PM
If you click through to YouTube, you see that it's just some dude's re-edit of his favorite videos by other people.

The X-Games crap in the second half kinda douches up the whole thing. "Let's embrace nature with ski resorts, skate parks and motocross courses!"

Godfrey Reggio, he is not.

Psalm 104:10-14

"He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate-bringing forth food from the earth." (NIV)

Bible quotes! I love doing those! My turn:

Deuteronomy 20:13-15

"When the Lord your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it. 14 As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the Lord your God gives you from your enemies. 15 This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby." (NIV)
