Damn snow miser

It's a little chilly here, 61F.

2012-12-05 11:02:00 PM
Why can't they work in some sort of shelter? Make it say, zero degrees?

/80s last weekend, that stupid time of year where I use both heat and AC on the same day

HA! HA! THEY'RE EXPERIENCING GLOBAL WARMING!!!1!

I.m not in fairbanks (thank the fsm) but it's 35 below outside right now. Dog dick freezing weather.

I woke up this morning and it was in the low 50's. Dressed accordingly. Threw about 20 miles under my bike before I went to work and everything was dunkey horey. I froze my ass off riding home because the temp dropped 20 degrees. A mini "day after" indeed.

This is no surprise, AGCC theory has long predicted more extreme temperatures in both directions:

But oh yeah, "they" keep changing the name, and "they" say everything is caused by global warming, and "they" are all lying for grant money. img.wlxrs.com

Wow, that is ironic.

How disappointing....

I would have went with (c) old weather

Just so people in the thread could have started for four or five posts of "What's old weather?"

Too cold to ice-skate.

I did think about doing that.

"The 30- to 40-below-zero temperatures that have plagued Interior Alaska for close to a week"

This is like talking about the rain that has plagued the Seattle area for the last week. The cold isn't newsworthy until it hits 50 below and the ice fog makes driving impossible.

I can't imagine why people would want to live where it gets that cold this early in the year, the all time record here was -25F and that was in late January when it's supposed to be cold. At -25 it hurts to breath deeply without something over your face to keep some of your exhaled heat in to warm the incoming air, I can't imagine what -40 must be like.

Gary Black relocated to Fairbanks late last week.

It's Fairbanks. More likely to be threatened by Eskimo gang violence.

/isn't kidding.

Finally, a proper use of the ironic tag.

It's cold and has super super shiatty air quality. 2 asthma attacks in a week. I'd take the cold weather with a lot more humor if my neighbors wouldn't burn garbage, tires, and wet wood to stay warm. Seriously though, weather wise, interior Alaska sucks most of the year. March is pretty nice, but otherwise stay away.

March is nice? March sucks down here in Juneau.

I've been in Fairbanks in July. That wasn't bad, outside of having to tape aluminum foil to my hotel room windows to get any sleep.

I can't imagine why people would want to live where it gets that cold this early in the year,

Don't need air conditioning in summer - sunny, 60-80 degrees and breezy 24/7 during summer
Can always get through traffic lights in less than 1 complete cycle. - "Rush Hour" means it takes me 15 min to get home instead of 12.
Low population pressure means that you get better service - 1 person complaining is important.
Facebook page for our neighborhood watch has moose pictures.

You can always put on a few more layers, or stay inside curled up by the wood/pellet stove with a good book when it gets cold, but you can't replace some of the other things.

//Fairbanks is like Detroit, but worse.
///never wants to see another honeypot

Where were you living? I'm in Fairbanks and I've never seen a honeypot.

March is great. It's not hell frozen over freezing cold and not mud season yet. Dare I say, rather pleasant in an Alaskan sort of way.

ah, see, it's prime mud season here. February is kind of like that here. More daylight, temperatures don't feel as bad, good stable ice, more clear nights.

Meh, air conditioning here is unheard of; heating in the winter is minimal; traffic isn't an issue for me; traffic jams are as likely to be caused by tourists gawking at elk as anything else; the population for the entire county is about one tenth that of the city of San Francisco. I'm happier than a pig in a waller here in Humboldt. Yeah, we got that too, and if you're paying for it, you're doing it wrong.

I can tell you what -51 feels like.

Fire. Any exposed skin burns like a flame is being run over it. Nerve endings can't tell the difference in your skin cells rupturing from intense heat or flash freezing. It doesn't last long though. The exposed area goes numb pretty fast.

THAT'S when you need to worry.

Poe's Law. You still need to call them on it.

I don't care if someone calls themselves a troll ... it doesn't change what they posted.

/what is smug about pointing out a moronic post? Especially when this particular brand of stupidity runs rampant.

So if the weather changes, AGCC is right? The weather never changed on its own before. No sir.

Liberalism causes the stock markets to fluctuate. If the market goes up or down we have to kill liberals to make it stop.

"Scientists": Hey when we remove most of the cold weather data from Russia it makes it look like the temperature goes up 0.5 degrees a year.
Everyone Else: Will money fix it?
Al Gore: I'll take that!
"Scientists": Hey can we have some of that money?
Democrats: Only if you keep putting out doomsday publications.
"Scientists": OK, sure.
Everyone Else: OMG WE'RE DYING. Nevermind that a global rise in temperature could potentially solve world hunger by opening up more food locations, the media told me I need to BE VERY AFRAID.

"Those darn scientists with their measurements and book-learnin'. The devil's work I say!!!"

"There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge."
