I can't help but like Prince Philip. He reminds me of of a crotchety old grandfather who says whatever the hell he feels like! Does it really matter what he says, considering the only reason he's important at all is he's married to the Queen?

2003-12-07 01:59:40 PM
Or, it could be a case of what happens when cousins marry.

2003-12-07 03:13:07 PM
Good heavens, the meaningless figureheads are insulting countries which are due for a civil war in twenty minutes!

I'm surprised they still let this guy out of Buckingham Palace, if only there were a website that has a collection of all of his best remarks.

--When visiting China in 1986, he told a group of British students, "If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed".

--After accepting a gift from a Kenyan native he replied "You are a woman aren't you?"

--"If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine the Cantonese will eat it."

--"British women can't cook."

--Suggested the locals were cannibals on a visit to Papua New Guinea by asking a British student "You managed not to get eaten then?"

--Asked a Scottish driving instructor "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough for them to pass the driving test?"

--Told a group of deaf school children at a fund raising event standing next to a Jamaican steel drum band "Deaf? No wonder you are deaf standing so close to that racket."

--He asked an Australian aborigine, "Still throwing spears at each other?"

--Said to a Briton in Budapest, Hungary, "You can't have been here that long - you haven't got a pot belly."

--To the President of Nigeria, who was dressed in traditional muslim robes, "You look like you're ready for bed!"

--Phil ensures that the Windsor's Golden Jubilee tour of Britain starts appropriately. Upon confronting a visually impaired, wheelchair bound lady and her guide dog, he joshes: Do you know they have eating dogs for the anorexic now?

--whilst being shown around a high-tech electronics factory in Edinburgh, Phil notices a fuse box that's less advanced than other equipment that's around. So naturally, the completely unbigoted and misunderstood Duke automatically says, 'It looks as though it was put in by an Indian.'

--During a spell in the Cayman Islands he asks a local: Aren't most of you descended from pirates?

Do you know they have eating dogs for the anorexic now?

Heh, I'll have to remember that one.

2003-12-07 07:24:40 PM
hehe, I'm liking this Prince Philip already

2003-12-07 07:26:27 PM
He asked an Australian aborigine, "Still throwing spears at each other?"

THAT is comedy gold! I can only imagine the expressions on the faces of the people around when he uttered that little nugget.

Props to the headline writer, subtle... sorta :)

--After accepting a gift from a Kenyan native he replied "You are a woman aren't you?"

this is even more hilarious when you imagine it said with a british accent. personally, i was picturing it in a michael caine voice and found it hilarious

/who says the royalty is useless

2003-12-07 07:34:05 PM
haha, I got that email too

2003-12-07 07:35:00 PM
holy fark.
i had no idea the old guy was so hilarious.

2003-12-07 07:38:21 PM
Told a group of deaf school children at a fund raising event standing next to a Jamaican steel drum band "Deaf? No wonder you are deaf standing so close to that racket."

This guy is a genius. I'm much more fond of the royal family since I read this article.

And another thing - the Queen is a master diplomat:

At the opening ceremony, she said: "This is an unmistakably African occasion."

Masterful! A putdown that sounds like a compliment. Philip should be taking notes.

2003-12-07 07:39:17 PM
well, he basically said 'no comment.' considering his track record, this is showing a great deal of restraint. i dont see how the queen's comment is great praise; if, lets say, phillip said that, wed all take it to mean "this shiathole is full of [nubians]."

2003-12-07 07:39:57 PM
After returning to Malaysia after a long time, he noticed how the population had grown.
"You people breed like rabbits!" he told the nation's leader.

2003-12-07 07:40:11 PM
Hey, Phillip tells it like it is (from the way he sees things, that is). You've got to love him for that!

2003-12-07 07:40:56 PM
Inbreds make me laugh!

2003-12-07 07:41:45 PM
He's obviously never seen nuclear submarine on the menu in Singapore then.

2003-12-07 07:42:03 PM
I was hoping he'd said something about the tribal dancers.

2003-12-07 07:42:32 PM
The man should be given a medal for his honesty...

2003-12-07 07:45:41 PM
God, what I wouldn't give to see this be King instead of some stupid consort.

2003-12-07 07:45:53 PM
The sickening thing is that this asshole is rich and I am not.

2003-12-07 07:48:22 PM
This guy is awesome. He says the things that I only think!

2003-12-07 07:49:14 PM
Try as he might, he will never beat Princess Margaret.

2003-12-07 07:50:05 PM
He should be ashamed. Africa is a beautiful country.

2003-12-07 07:56:25 PM
This guy is an overprivledged, grade-A dickhead. I'd like to see him forced to get an actual JOB and live in some crappy apartment in the crappiest part of whatever the crappiest city in England is. HOW D'YOU LIKE THEM APPLES ROYALTY-MAN?

2003-12-07 08:00:21 PM
Lalalala

Holy cripes, that link of hers shows a lot of hate-talk!

At least Prince Philip tells it the way he sees it, without the underlying hatred.

For once, an absolutely hilarious headline. I love it!

I guess he's gonna be in the doghouse for a while now...

some more priceless quotes..

During the 1981 recession: "Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed."

Commenting on modern stress counselling for servicemen in 1995: "We didn't have counsellors rushing around every time somebody let off a gun, asking 'Are you all right? Are you sure you don't have a ghastly problem?' "

Responding to calls for a firearm ban after the Dunblane shooting: "If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, which he could do very easily, I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?"

Referring to a Cambridge University car park attendant who failed to recognise him in 1997: "Bloody silly fool!"

Accepting a conservation award in Thailand in 1991: "Your country is one of the most notorious centres of trading in endangered species in the world."

When asked to stroke a Koala bear in Australia in 1992: "Oh no, I might catch some ghastly disease."

Speaking to an islander in the Cayman Islands inubian: "Aren't most of you descended from pirates?"

Pointing at 14-year-old Shahin Ullah during a visit to a London youth club: "He looks as if he is on drugs!"

tooomatoo
If there was a NRA chapter in the UK, Prince Phillip would probably head it up.

Responding to calls for a firearm ban after the Dunblane shooting: "If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, which he could do very easily, I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?"

Replace the word "Cricket" with "Baseball" and you have the same arguments against gun control used by the gun nuts in the US!

2003-12-07 08:25:29 PM
inubian?

2003-12-07 08:26:25 PM
ok, so "in [1994]" gets censored?

"When a man opens the car door for his wife, its either a new car or a new wife." -Prince Phillip

This guy is the greatest.

2003-12-07 08:33:29 PM
"If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine the Cantonese will eat it."

Eh? First time I heard this one was from a Taiwanese in-law... it was said with a smile and a certain amount of pride (I was looking suspiciously at my first helping of squid tentacles at the time...)

2003-12-07 08:48:24 PM
All in all Phillip is more of a Court Jester than Royal Consort.

2003-12-07 08:56:00 PM
You may or may not like what he says. Still, you have to admire someone who tells it just like he sees it.

And by the way, which do you like best: a Prince Phillip or an average deceiving/lying politician?

2003-12-07 08:56:08 PM
murder the aristrocats. i can't believe humans have let them live for this long. they don't deserve to live.

2003-12-07 08:59:12 PM
I've always thought he was a rich man's Dan Quayle.

Responding to calls for a firearm ban after the Dunblane shooting: "If a cricketer, for instance, suddenly decided to go into a school and batter a lot of people to death with a cricket bat, which he could do very easily, I mean, are you going to ban cricket bats?"

I love that man...

2003-12-07 09:10:22 PM
Ah good ol' Prince Philip. Will be a sad day when he passes on and robs the world of a highly amusing person. The stuff he comes out with is so brilliant it's hard to believe he does it *entirely* by accident. I like to think of him as somebody who lies awake at night chuckling about the amusing line he can barely get away with the next day! :)

2003-12-07 09:15:17 PM
Ah yes, and if you've never seen him, he's not even a particularly young chap:

There is no question that he does not say these things by accident. He has a great time saying these things. I love it.
