Because the size of a hurricane dwarfs the size of an atomic blast.

No...no...we don't REALLY gotta.

Because if there's one thing better than a hurricane, it's gotta be a *radioactive* hurricane

Lisa: "Nuke the whales"? You don't really believe that, do you?
Nelson: I dunno. Gotta nuke somp'm.
Lisa: Touché.

Meaning we'd have to nuke anything that got an Lxx designation, which are storms that the NHC think might develop. You're looking at 50 nukes a year in the Atlantic alone.

I'm just happy to see that this article is actually explaining why we shouldn't. This being Fark and all, it wouldn't have surprised me.

The article sounds reasonable, but have we ever detonated a 30 megaton warhead just inside the upwind wall of a major hurricane to see what happens? Have we? Everything in a 10 mile radius reaches 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit in milliseconds. Causing a huge updraft which.... ummmm....

OK, so maybe it's not such a hot idea after all.

Hurricanes thrive on heat and water. You might possibly turn a category 1 into a much stronger storm by detonating h bombs underwater just ahead of the storm, which would feed on the massive quantities of steam produced. Hell, you might even be able to steer it that way. You could steer a cat 5 straight into many parts of Asia.

Now THAT'S what I'd call practical.

During each hurricane season, there always appear suggestions that one should simply use nuclear weapons...

Let me just stop you right there, professor. One does not simply... use nuclear weapons.

Most awkward construction with "one" as the subject. Evar. Which "one" are we talking about? Joe Bastardi? Chris Christie? Lootie? Please, show me that one who would have the opportunity to detonate a nuclear warhead as a hurricane approaches.

Very reasonable article. How farking boring.

/Can't we do it just once? Just to see what happens? Pleeeeeeeease?

OK...so where? Atlantic Ocean? Australia? I mean, while we're exploring this idea...where could we reasonably get away with it, and not ruin an entire culture?
