You're welcome.

Thanks. But where's the lightning strike? The dancing horse? The haymobile? The lowflying jet? I'm a substitute and can't wait to show these to some kids.

The horse isn't dancing, just crossing the street. The haymobile is early in the video, the jet later on. Oh, and early in the video there's a low flying helicopter too. This video has it all and then some.

I meant Austin's link didn't have the dancing horse, the lightning strike etc.
I know that the Russian horse wasn't really dancing...it's one of those 47% horses unlike Ann Romney's dancing horse.

rebelyell2006: They need to play these sorts of videos at Drivers Ed here in America. Show how not to do things: driving too fast, passing when it is not safe, not checking the car to make sure the wheels and tires are firmly attached, driving while drunk, jumping out of moving vehicles...

That's a good compromise. I forgot the name, Code 30 or something that they used to show that had actual gruesomes and some snowflakes would be too grossed out.

This one... I keep watching it over and over. I can't see it hit anything first. It seriously seems to have a wheelie button inside somewhere.

It hit the tram cable.

Why the cable was down is anyone's guess.

I guess I thought it would just push the cable out of the way, but it must have hooked on. wow!

There was one later that showed some sort of truck with a pole sticking out that pulled down some other wires. Definitely a different incident but probably the same type of situation.

Signal 30. You youngers check out Signal 30 on youtube and see what we saw in driver's ed 40+ years ago. Our teacher was good about it. Said that he had to show it, and if you couldnt take it close your eyes put your head on the desk until its over.

Its kind of surreal that the first 3 links based on that search went to clips of a Madmen episode about Pete being in driving school.

I'm fine with the Red Asphalt I just checked out. But I guess I'm partial to the retro style in Signal 30. The directness. The whole vibe like a father telling his son you're old enough to hear this now. Plus those cool 1950s cars.

theesir: This made me want to kiss my inspection sticker on my car. Wow, tires are just flying off cars in Russia.

I was motoring along (the) 405 one night, driving from San Clemente to a friend's place in Culver City.
Early evening, road construction, traffic's moving about 45 mph, and a wheel passes me on the right and turns into my lane. Just a wheel and a tire, trying to get home. It was one of the only times in my life were I reflexively said, " ... okay.... ".

Frozboz: Can anyone recommend a good dashcam? I'm thinking of getting one.

I'm buying myself a RoadHawk for christmas, they record looped video whenever the car's on, they get power through a regular DC adapter, and they have a "save" button that earmarks the last 10 seconds of video (and the upcoming 10 seconds also), which isn't recorded over when the loop repeats. Check them out at:

dennysgod: Does a dashcam come standard in Russia or something, seems like everybody has one there.

It's pretty standard in Russia.  Many areas have little or no police coverage, plus there's an issue with corruption as well.  The videos can be used in court to show who was at fault in an accident.

I heard, somewhere (it may have been a different "Check out what the Russians are doing on the road!" link on Fark) that it's an insurance thing, to be able to prove you weren't at fault.

Not just that, but insurance scams happen as well. One popular one (even in the US) is called the "swoop and stop".

A car will swoop in front of you and stop forcing you to rear-end them which without evidence to the contrary generally is accepted as your fault. Then they find a cooperative doctor, claim injuries and your insurance gets to pay them.

That won't work against me. My van will simply crush any asshole that tries that stunt. Go ahead, try to scam me. You'll just die, squishy and messy.

I had a guy try the opposite with me a while back. Asshat in a 3 ton utility truck comes roaring up behind me, gets within an inch of my rear bumper and then slams on his brakes, honking and waving his arms around like I cut him off. He failed to notice the state trooper in the lane right next to him, who had a perfect view of the whole thing.

I had a 73 GMC Vandura that was like that. We called it "The Beast." In the winter, I would use the dash heater to warm up a burrito on the way to my classes.

A lot of Signal 30 was filmed on Route 30 ... right by where I grew up. The officer in the beginning mentions Trimble Road and the highway ... that's like 10 miles away ... I know ... CSB

Do a search on eBay for "dashcam". Lots of cheap stuff. Reviews are decent for some of them.
