I can imagine that this must be the result of a lot of training, dreaming, and hoping. Guy on the left seems a lot more disabled than the right. Truly hit me in the gut.

I don't buy the caption for #33. Based on the position of the kid and the soldier, and the expression on his face, I don't believe she was really trying to punch him.

I must be desensitized to this kind of stuff. I look at the Police Photos, at the mother on her sons grave, at all of it. And all I get out of it is the same sinking feeling that we, as humans, will destroy ourselves he we don't learn to love each other more.

You hear that world? FARKING LOVE SOMEONE!

Who buys the photographers story on that one? Said he was using the flash to warn the train driver.

Sad that there's literally no one near the guy trying to help him off the tracks.

"Amusing" is NOT one of them, Subby. >:-(

Um, yeah. More sadness than anything.

Aside from a few shots of people being awesome, it's a reminder that we are incredibly disappointing as a civilization and we have a very long way to go.

gingerjet: The 45 most powerful photos of disasters and hardship of 2012

FTFA

Well, hardship for most people, unless you are a New Yorker, then you get to whine about it needlessly, apparently.

A photo of someone mourning 9/11....an event from 11 years ago, is one of the most important photos of THIS year. Yes it was tragic....but can we move on beyond this now, New York-based media. I'm sure that the photos at year's Oklahoma bombing memorial ceremony was just as tear-jerky, but we don't get to see those.

//of course that "fashionista" picture doesn't do New York any favors, either.

Am I the only one who realizes that there could be some pretty important pictures taken this month? They do realize that things do happen in December, right? History doesn't just take the month off.

This is why I hate year-end lists because they come out before the year is over. I get why it happens, lazy journalists, but what's so wrong about waiting until the end of December?

Well it takes time to compile lists and pictures. It's not like we live in an age of instant information and file shari... oh, wait...

Actually that photo was staged and the girls father is a senior person in the organization Popular Resistance. This was just another incident when the Media got scammed by Palestinians staging photos, and this was not the first or last time

Wacth these videos (first is the confrontation with commentary and the second is the entire incident unedited)

It's our leaders. Those powerful, selfish, greedy, pampered wealthy middle-aged men who supposedly work for US are the ones that always create those conditions.

Us regular folk just want to get on with our lives get a decent job, raise a family etc but the powerful always start the dick-waving that eventually leads to sadness war and death for because THEY feel inadequate or need some sort of revenge.

Fark the bastards in suits and ties.

Is it just me, or does it look like there's no water inside his house

s3-ec.buzzfed.com

xanadian: #34. You'd think the Dutch were prepared for this whole possibility of flooding just from that pic. Water gets that high anywhere in the US and the houses are totally inundated. And here's this guy, casually looking out his window.

Houses and architectural components from that era and especially that area plus all of Europe are built to boat-like standards.

However, I can judge just from the photo that this house has sustained serious water damage. Also, the furniture was damaged. Expensive antique European furniture.

I think I see water stains almost to his knees in this photo. He has a basement for sure. The basement is probably full of water.

treecologist: Who knew they made windows so waterproof in Holland?

I was thinking the same thing. I recently hosed my window down and noticed the water that accumulated in the window "channels". I dont knwo my window anatomy but arent there little drains on modern window frames

We'd have little flood inside the house if the water got that high.
