My middle aged mother and her gay friends will be inconsolable, subby.

All I know is I watched 21 Jump Street last night and laughed my ass off.

I wasn't expecting it to be good or funny or... anything... but I watched it anyway and was pleasantly surprised.

Nicely played, Subby. Although he wasn't bad in Haywire.

WTF kind of a name is "Channing?" Like Tatum isn't farked up enough. Tatum Channing--yup, it works just as well the other way. I hate your name, dude.

Same, except a few months ago. That movie was way better than it had any right to be from the premise.

It must be awful to have hit the artistic peak of your career -- winning People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive honor -- at so young an age. For him, is there really anything left to accomplish?

That's what my husband said, too. He announced he "wouldn't be watching it with me" and then proceeded to laugh his ass off from his computer.

And apparently some of his best sequences were improv. Its really hard to hate the guy, but damnit all to hell if farkers who hadn't even seen 21 jump street didn't try. Those threads were awful, but they enlightened me to which people criticize without ever having seen said movies.

He manages to play a great douchebag in the way Courtney Love managed to play a great drug addict trainwreck in People Vs. Larry Flynt, or the way that Jack Nicholson plays a great Jack Nicholson in every Jack Nicholson movie.

Subby, I actually disagree. Back when he got started, watching him act was like watching a block of wood talk. He has taken acting classes and taken it seriously. Will he ever be Ryan Gosling? Doubt it. But he has definitely improved to where you don't just write him off. Besides, Brad Pitt was kind of just a pretty boy too and he has really honed his craft. 21 Jump Street was a good example as is Magic Mike. For a chick flick, The Vow didn't make me want to blow my brains out and he was fairly decent in that. I dunno, not being all defensive about it. I actually used to roll my eyes every time I saw him and wondered how he kept getting work. It's nice to see people step up and try and do better and be taken a bit more serious.

He was brutal in 21 Jump Street (but, to be fair, so was everyone else). He has gotten better though, but he started off at -10/10, so he's got a long hole to climb out of.

Another vote for 21 Jump Street. That movie had no right being that funny. And Brie Larson has no excuse being that hot.

That scene + the music scene. Yup I will look past most if not all of previous film projects because of that.

I swear 21 Jump Street must not have had a script, the director probably just told the actors to wing it.

So much this. I was shocked at how funny it was.

LegacyDL: I swear 21 Jump Street must not have had a script, the director probably just told the actors to wing it.

From what I understand, it really didn't. They ad-libbed a good portion of the movie, to the point they'd brainstorm the night before shooting and see how many jokes they could add to the script. At some point, the script became a skeleton to their hi-jinx for the movie and as long as they kept the plot intact, they were given lots of room to work with.

He's better than people give him credit for.

He did a good job in Haywire and the scene in 21 Jump Street where he is stoned in the music room was ad-libbed* and done in one take.

* It was in the script that he act stoned but the director apparently just let him go at it.

So what the thread is telling me is that he's a good actor, just not a good action star. Noted, though I will say he can get his ass kicked by Gina Carano anytime he wants, because that was entertaining.

2012-12-05 03:40:16 PM
21 Jump Street was fantastic. I like it more every time I see it (and it's on 24/7 rotation on Starz, so that's a lot!)

I wasn't expecting him to be as good as he was either but damned if HE didn't make the movie!

Hell, he's worth it for the FINAL line of movie ("you're going to college!" "yes!" "NO!!")

LOVED it!

In all fairness, he was acting opposite Cody Horn. A cockatoo would look like Brando acting opposite Cody Horn.

21 Jump Street was hilarious. The best part though was Ice Cube as the Captain:

LMAO.

was he in "Trash: The New Gold"? i saw that and for an instructional film it was pretty good...

My own shot of Gina from "ActionFest 2012" - she is very friendly ... mixes right in with the crowd (she's her own security). She was filming a stuntman on fire about 5' in front of her.

And on a similar note, when Matthew McConaughey is stealing every scene in your movie to the point where people are talking about an Oscar Nomination that's ............. not good.

Gonna add to the pile of "21 Jump Street was way better than it deserved to be", and it made me totally forgive him for how awful he was in GI Joe.

/To stand out for being awful in an already awful movie...that's awful.
