"We have fully extracted the drone's information," Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement on Wednesday

Doubt it.

It would be like a caveman finding an iPhone, learning it didn't work very well as a tool for shaping stone, and declaring, "We have extracted every bit of data available."

Damn it I had all my porn on that drone. I want it back, you bastards!

ArkPanda: By the way, this doesn't necessarily prove that we are flying stuff into Iran. There's a pro-Iranian militia in western Afghanistan that probably has all kinds of junk by now.

Of course we are.
But, so are so many other parties including "private contractors" from "elsewhere".
70some countries are currently flying drones openly.
Your guess how many over Iran.
This one was junk, you can do better at any hobby store.

Where is the rubberband propeller? WHAR!?

Um, there isn't really much stored on these things. Sensor data/flight information is all relayed via radio. There is maybe the remote possibility of a crypto key, but those can be easily changed. Since this thing most likely isn't even U.S. shut-up Iran.

BolloxReader: Why do people think that they did not have data to analyze? Given that we already lost one drone over Iran I'd think they would load them up with extraneous hard drives full of interesting but completely false data. Then watch how the false data are propagated and how many resources are thrown at bad projects.

Just because it doesn't come from the factory with a HDD doesn't mean Iran may not find one.

Based on the configuration of the Scan Eagle that they've been shopping around, there's no hardware on the aircraft that could make use of a hard drive.

But are they still displaying that "skulls & stripes" US flag with it?

cgraves67: Cythraul: And even if they had one of our drones. Then what? Are they going to start building them? Did the drone have all our military tactics information embedded in it?

It's apparently a generic model. So it's not like they are getting proprietary US technology. Several countries are using them. The US claims it's not ours, but it could belong to any one of the NATO or Arab countries operating in the area or Israel. The Iranians could pull cryptographic software off of it, and reverse engineer it in order to do something, maybe hijack more drones.

That's what I would do.

Guess I need to repeat myself.

THESE ARE RECOVERED IN NETS. No other way to snag em. If it had hit the ground it would have broken up on impact.
This unit was purchased and was not flying at the time they acquired it.. and the propeller is on backwards.
