I've shared this story before so sorry if you've heard it but one can have only so many Yelp stories. A few years back friends of mine opened a restaraunt on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, putting themselves in all sorts of insane debt to do so. Anyhew, the remodel was finally done for the most part, staff had been hired, and it was time to celebrate. So, they threw a party.

Long story short, people see a crowded new restaraunt, they get curious. Throughout the evening curious people wandered in off the street. Rather than turn people away, the owner sat them, gave them beers, and let them know that the place wasn't officially open but they were free to look at the menu he had planned for the opening next week and he said could make them some burgers and shuck them some oysters if they liked.

The next day the place got its first Yelp review - and I paraphrase...

"On a whim, me and my husband went to RESTARAUNT NAME for the first time last night. What a mistake! The menu was EXTREMELY like TWO ITEMS limited, the wait staff was drunk and innattentive, the music WAY too loud. People were DANCING. It took 15 minutes for me to get my burger, which though delicious was made by the same waiter that took my order! What sort of shoddy outfit is this?!?!? The complimentary drinks were a pathetic attempt to win back our favor. I will NEVER come back to this place."

My favorite: "I ordered the broiled crab cakes and they were really good and i called and asked if i could speak to the supervisor and the girl that asnswerd the phone wanted to know what it was in reference to and I told her it was regarding the food i ordered and and she said what was wrong with it and i said nothing i just wanted to let him or her know that it was good and then she was like ok hold on. When the manager got on the phone and i thanked him and let him know it was good he said thank you and you welcome but seemed like he was in a rush. I don't think i will be eating their anymore because if the manager is not nice then what does that say about the business they are running and the people in it.

Any Yelp review you read should be taken with a grain of salt. Some people just can't write a review without focusing on one issue and giving out 1 star because of it.

Mrs Palin, go home. You are drunk, and this Sizzler has been here long before Yelp (and the internet).

I tend to agree with Zimmerman on this one: The general public is too stupid to have an opinion on what kind of food and service they like when they go out to eat. The masses should let the experts tell them what they like.

At worst, it's flat-out ignorance. My favorites so far are one complaining about an Ethiopian restaurant trying to trick people into eating with their hands, and another complained about the lack of frozen margaritas at a Belgian pub.

Okay, you've inspired me to find a local place that I love and adore and would recommend to anyone and find a horrible review...

Casita Taqueria

We recently moved from the Chicago area and were excited about going after reading a review in the newspaper. Boy, were we sorry. First, you're not sure if you get waited on or not. Not! You order your food and they bring to you (which is OK if you know that). We though we would authentic mexican food. NOT!!! The corn tortillas were very good, but the rest was not authentic. Black beans!! Where's the pinto beans and mexican rice and since when do you have to BUY chips and salsa (chips were good). Oh, and it was not inexpensive. Come on now, mexican food should be really inexpensive., DISAPPOINTED.

Go back to flyover country.

That is a horrible review, but i got more of a chuckle from someone in St. Petersburg calling Chicago "flyover country".
