"Socialism" and "regulation" are curse words to conservatives, and most of them don't really understand how either works.

That's the word you say three times in the mirror for Palin to appear.

/you have to say it in the dark chewing on a piece of straw

"Socialism" makes a lot of people conjure up images of evil Russian agents from the cold war. It's similar to the scene in Clue (set in the 50s) where the mere mention of the word "socialists" causes women in the room to audibly gasp. But I digress...their understanding of the word is detached from it's actual definition and shaped more from cold war propaganda and movies.

To today's GOP, words don't have denotations, only connotations.

I'm so using that. Nice and concise.

Socialism doesn't need a definition. It just is.

It definitely doesn't mean stealing a portion of oil company profits in Alaska and redistributing them to people just because they live there.

The actual definition is pretty anathema to most people as well.

Before the election there was some Hungarian telling how he grew up in a socialist country and how socialism made everyone give up trying to better themselves.

Assumed he was anti-Obama.

Obama is a lousy socialist.

I don't have a problem with large numbers of people looking up a word definition.

I have a problem with people who are confident they already know everything they need to know.

The absolute, pure definitions of many can be off-putting.

It bothers me that people don't know when to look something up in a dictionary and when to use an encyclopedia. I remember my 1st grade teacher taught me this when I was trying to find out what hamster ate.

That's fair. And to be honest myself, it's probably better that more people do before they capriciously and recklessly start throwing the terms around without understanding what they mean.

This is a great example of someone who has no clue about socialism.

Though, he'd hate the real definition more.

I'm glad people are looking it up. It's a good practice to confirm or revisit the definitions and usage of words, even if you're confident you're already using them correctly.

The real danger is to assume the information in your head is absolute.

What Socialism really is. As told by a socialist (me).

The transition period from capitalism to communism. The proletariat have seized the control of production from the capitalist/owner class. A workers state is formed to protect the gains made during this workers revolution from the inevitable backlash from the displaced capitalist class (socialism is the dictatorship of the proletariat). Once the capitalists have been defeated the workers state (socialism) fades away, there is no need for protection, there is no need for a state, there is no need for wages, there is no profit motive goods are produced for a use value, not a profit value (this is communism).

It would be a utopia. As long as you weren't an owner/capitalist. I can imagine it would be downright bad, in that case. Though I wouldn't shed one farking tear for those twats.
