Ironic tag on vacation? This is one of the few times it would be appropriate.

Even the Japanese started off making crappy cars. Now they lead American cars in quality, and not just because American cars got worse. The Japanese got better at making the things.

When the heads of Toyota show up at the Toyota plant once a month, they ask everybody for their opinion. They don't like being told everything's fine. A low-level tech whose job was solely to hold the hose steaming seats that go into cars told them to change the order of work (install 2 bolts before 2 other bolts instead of after), which saved 17 seconds; to give a shorter steam hose, which increased steam output pressure and saved 24 seconds; and to allow the use of fingerless gloves, which retains minimal burn risk but increases dexterity when installing bolts, saving 11 more seconds. This cut the total time down to under 30 seconds per seat.

Usually they also ask what is non-functional or not ideally durable on their car, what breaks often, what doesn't work, handling issues, things the mechanics think could be better, and such. Once in a great while, nobody has anything; at this point the higher ups look confused and quite obviously annoyed. They become belligerent for a while, then leave in a huff.

The Japanese simply do not like to hear that everything is perfect. There is no such thing. They need to improve.

The fact that British dentists use £200 hand-held dental x-ray machines probably says something about the state of British dentistry.

AverageAmericanGuy: The Chinese inability to produce high quality products is baffling. After 10 years of building shiatty products, you'd think they'd get better at it.

Even the Japanese started off making crappy cars. Now they lead American cars in quality, and not just because American cars got worse. The Japanese got better at making the things.

But the Chinese are still cutting corners, producing shoddy products, and endangering the public with their wares. When are they going to finally improve?

The Japanese had competition when they started doing business with us. First they beat the price, then the quality.
The Chinese have no competition, since it's all about costs these days. .

That is, of course, why it wasn't used.

Hey, at least it doesn't cost very much and really, that's what's important.
