According to one version of the story, subby

Jeez...I hate reading shiat like this, because whatever actually happened, at least one party was being a giant douche and deserves a good public humiliation.

I hope there was a surveillance camera or somebody got it on their phone.

Yeah, it's that guy.

Manager Mike Toland said Husain had in some way acted inappropriately inside the restaurant. Pressed on what Husain did, however, the manager declined to elaborate. He said he didn't want to specify because a lawsuit may end up coming out of the situation.

That's all I need to know.

Really? I don't know...I don't think declining to say anything to some hungry reporters is an admission of anything.

I can't think of a single reason why he couldn't elaborate beyond "Husain had in some way acted inappropriately". If the guy really had done something worth being booted from the place, why not say it?

saying "He came out of the bathroom with his pants around his ankles" or "he demanded the women sit on the other side of the restaurant with napkins over their faces" is going to do nothing but make the restaurant look better.

Lionel Mandrake: Husain has a beard and wears a traditional Muslim hat.

What is a Muslim hat?

I wondered that myself.

I can only speak for myself, but I would be reluctant to say anything to a reporter, no matter how sure I am that I did nothing inappropriate. I'll talk at great length to the people I need to in order to straighten things out, but some dude or dudette who is looking for an "angle" to put on teevee? fark them.

Believe me, I am tempted to jump to conclusions given where this happened and to whom, but all of this is "alleged" at this point.

Um, first of all- wtf does that have to do with tfa ?
Second- who cares ?

Anyhow, I have no idea if this is just a publicity stunt from one side or another, and I dont care, frankly.
The only thing good about Subway is their breads. Jersey Mikes is my go-to sub place if I am out and about, but, Subway has such good bread. Too bad their "artists" mostly suck at the simple act of making a damn sub sammich.

Any time the management won't say what it was the other party did wrong because "there 'might' be a lawsuit" you can bet nothing happened. Or at the very least Mr. Husain didn't do anything openly threatening or abusive.

Now, maybe somebody said something, and the guy said something nasty back in reply, which is likely what happened--it's possible some racial slurs or "biatch" were tossed around--but I don't buy for a second that the Subway employee did absolutely nothing wrong and that the old man and his wife just began "acting inappropriately" out of the blue. It's also convenient that there was just too much pure & holy Christian Xmas music obscuring the confrontation.

Probably nothing will come of it. I suspect that Husain's version is probably closer to the truth than whatever tale the Subway employees cobble together after doctoring their somewhat inaudible tape. But it's nice to know that even when they're under scrutiny, Republicans won't take any responsibility for their people being douchebags.

Oh I understand what you mean. I'd be a complete "no comment" type or just ask them to leave. and I also try to not jump to conclusions, especially after learning first hand at just how horrible the press is about screwing up facts. But "he did something inappropriate but I ain't gonna say what" is something that jumps out at me.

My money is riding on the Muslim dude and his wife getting screwed over. But time will tell I suppose.

The last time I went to a Subway that had decent bread was like 1996. They have universally sad, limp, starchy bread these days. Jersey Mike's has way better coldcuts and bread. Even Grab n Go has better bread than Subway.

The blame for this falls solely on the manager. While the owner may very well be a d-bag of extraordinary magnitude, he can't be held personally accountable for the actions of an employee unless that employee was following his instructions. Rushing to judgement to condemn either party is a mistake and although knee jerk reactions can be right 50% of the time the other 50% of the time you end up looking like an ass. Subways usually have security cameras as well as customers that can be called as witnesses. The truth will eventually come out but unless Fleming had a no Muslim policy then he is not the one at fault here.

RTFA. That sentence was in reference to the 2nd Subway they went to, after the ordeal at the 1st.

Best comment from the article, attributed to Robert F:

[Manager Mike Toland said Husain had in some way acted inappropriately inside the restaurant.]

I guess going to the restroom to wash their hands before eating would raise suspicion. None of their regular redneck customers even know what soap and water is.

Damn my train of thought, I meant that the blame for locking the wife in fell solely on the manager. If you have customers causing a problem the last thing you want to do is escalate the situation by locking one in the store.

I have to be honest - at this point I distrust the very people I grew up with more than a Muslim transplant. I'm not kidding. Every Muslim I have met (in America) has been far more gracious than the Christian swine who claim to be above them.

This seems like the kind or article perfect for fark. Crappy journalism, combined with a push-button topic. It's almost guaranteed to bring out flaming trolls from either side. "some sort of inappropriate behavior" combined with "audio was partially obscured by loud Christmas music" = some speculative bullshiat that equates to nothing.

I would like to follow the story though to see if anything was really out of sorts. But I'm guessing this is a tempest in a tea bag. Read meat for the meat god.

I didn't think anyone still ate at Subway.

The one near me is on the same street as a Schlotsky's, a Quizno's, a Jersey Mike's, and a mom and pop barbecue sandwich joint, all of whom have much better food than freaking Subway.
