If this is a "traditional" record company. They own them outright and now that everyone involved is dead, they don't have to share any profits.

I love Johnny Cash, but there's a lot of pretty sappy and mediocre country music among those 63 discs. Go with the complete Sun works and add in the Americana series and a handful of other Columbia releases. You'll save money and eliminate a lot of waste.

I think the thing that really made him great is that Cash could cover someone else's song and make it totally his own. That's something that almost nobody else can do.

Get his last few albums from Rick Rubin and the American label. There's some truly great stuff there. He's got some cover versions of things you'd never expect to see on a country album - Rusty Cage from Soundgarden and Thirteen by Danzig to start off.

Everything he did with Rubin was great, but some of the best stuff didn't make the albums.

If you haven't listened to "Unearthed," I highly recommend it. It's a box set with lots of good stuff from the Cash/Rubin partnership.
