How does anyone think they can "tax the poor"? Tax WHAT? If they have no income, there's no income to tax. If they're making below poverty level, the graduated income tax we all pay doesn't ALLOW them to be taxed. People on disability, unemployment and social security cannot be taxed. What exactly do these cretins want to "tax"?

And even if the tax laws were changed so everyone had to pay taxes--again, what are you going to tax? Someone who makes $24,000 a year, if you taxed them at 5%, you'd get a whopping $1200 out of him. However, that would also be $1200 he couldn't spend on the economy--you know, food, clothing, gas--so that's money out of the commerce stream. People not buying stuff is what contributes to recession, not people not paying taxes. We need poor people buying stuff, not paying crippling taxes.

I'm not much of an economist, but even I know that if poor people give all their money to the government, the government winds up having to support them.

I vote FOR a tax when it comes up on local ballots, because I know it'll be put to good use. Then again, I'm not an uneducated moron (ie fiscal conservative).

In this last election, I voted for a local measure (didn't pass) that would have raised my property taxes to repair and rebuild several old, crumbling schools. I have no children of my own and don't plan to, but I too am not an uneducated moron. Taxes, and the things they pay for, are part of the social contract. I will happily pay for school improvements because I value education above just about anything else and I recognize the benefit to society, beyond myself.

really? and when the capital classes figure out they don't have to worry about the proles voting against them if they hold the economy(their jobs) hostage? You thought "vote for X or it will be bad for our company" was sketchy, imagine giving them not only a quasi legal way to do that, but a way to ensure their opposition can't vote at all.

what then? This idea that a person has no worth unless they have wealth, and then denying them opportunity to make it, is twisted.

Soon there will be a time when there simply is not enough human necessary labor to go around, what then? do we dig holes and fill them in everyday just to justify living?

and that is any better than people voting for those that give the poor more entitlements & welfare how?

Doc Lee: vegasj: I agree on the no voting if you are on welfare...

Republicans would never win an election. There's plenty of welfare the redcoats receive but don't know they receive. The big ones are in the form of Medicare and Medicaid rural and disproportionate share programs, S-CHIP, and farm subsidies. I'm fully in favor of eliminating these programs for the redcoat states temporarily. It's the only way they are going to come to the realize just how much they rely on the rest of the country for support. As it stands now, the redcoats believe they are out there on their own. Let them have a taste of being truly on their own. Let them eat cake for awhile.

So he purposes that the working class are the ones who gets to vote, this seems fair, I mean if the workers are the ones that are paying the taxes and basically keeps the government working, you could say it's the workers who control the government since they are the ones casting the votes at that point. Maybe workers of a certain field could ban together, like say farmers or steelworkers, perhaps they can form some sort of "workers council" where these workers vote for a group of individuals directly to the government to ensure their voice is heard. Of course the term workers council is kinda sloppy, we should find a simpler term that fits in to a nice sound bite for the digital age, maybe we can use the Russian term...soviet.
