Mugato: Krymson Tyde: They will learn many truths about the world soon enough. Let them be children and believe in childish things while they can.

Yeah, lie to your kids about Santa and when they turn 6 or so, "Psych! It's all bullshiat!". Great way to raise a kid.

skullkrusher: pxlboy: enderthexenocide: i never understood santa claus. i mean, my parents told me about him, but they also told me about jack and beanstalk and the three little pigs and the billy goats gruff and all those other cute stories. i don't think it ever occurred to me that santa was supposed to be real, when those other stories were just stories. my family was like "oh santa is real!" and i was like "um, sure he is." there are so many inconsistencies with santa, even a little kid should be able to put two and two together. even a very stupid child should know that santa is not "real."

they show pictures of santa on television, but its never the same guy. you can meet santa at the local mall or department store, but its a different guy at each place. my parents got me presents with "from santa" on the label, but then i could overhear my parents talking about the christmas shopping. why would my parents need to do christmas shopping if santa exists? every movie and show with santa claus has wildly different details and explanations about him, like how he gets into people's houses if they don't have a chimney. there are serious plot holes in this narrative!

the final straw for me was the flying reindeer. even at the age of two, i knew that reindeer didn't fly. birds could fly and airplanes could fly, but that was it. reindeer absolutely could not fly, they didn't even have wings! how can anyone be so deliberately ignorant that they could ever think reindeer can fly?

SuperNinjaToad: Blue_Blazer: SuperNinjaToad: Blue_Blazer: Oh and the other point I made to the wife and to my dad: why the fark should I allow my kid to think some made-up being gave him all these sweet gifts. I'd much rather he know that he got these presents from Mom and Dad who love him, and that's just what people do this time of year.

wouldn't that be worst for them psychologically at that age? ........ that your love for them is based on material gifts?

Gifts have been an expression of affection since, well, the first gift ever. That's what gifts are, tokens of affection. I suppose I could try it the old-fashioned way, where my beating the shiat out of them is because I love them, but I like my way better.

wow! really? I didn't know parenting to be such simple endevor as a matter of just simply choosing between bearing gifts and/or physical abuse.

No wonder so many kids in America today grow up to become either violent sociopaths or self entitled greedy selfish pricks or maybe a combination of both.

In all seriousness though, if you think just giving them material things is the primary show of your love and affection as parents you're doing it wrong.

Notice the bold part. You are trying to put words in my mouth. Apparently you think that giving gifts at Christmastime is psychologically damaging. You must be a blast at parties.

Stay on topic, Mao. We're talking about preserving a tradition held dear by many. The cost of doing so is keeping your f*cking mouth shut on one tiny matter. I'm shocked that a busy body teacher couldn't pull it off. I have 2 kids who know there's no Santa, and one that doesn't. skullkrusher: Indubitably: skullkrusher: Indubitably: skullkrusher: pxlboy: enderthexenocide: i never understood santa claus. i mean, my parents told me about him, but they also told me about jack and beanstalk and the three little pigs and the billy goats gruff and all those other cute stories. i don't think it ever occurred to me that santa was supposed to be real, when those other stories were just stories. my family was like "oh santa is real!" and i was like "um, sure he is." there are so many inconsistencies with santa, even a little kid should be able to put two and two together. even a very stupid child should know that santa is not "real."

they show pictures of santa on television, but its never the same guy. you can meet santa at the local mall or department store, but its a different guy at each place. my parents got me presents with "from santa" on the label, but then i could overhear my parents talking about the christmas shopping. why would my parents need to do christmas shopping if santa exists? every movie and show with santa claus has wildly different details and explanations about him, like how he gets into people's houses if they don't have a chimney. there are serious plot holes in this narrative!

the final straw for me was the flying reindeer. even at the age of two, i knew that reindeer didn't fly. birds could fly and airplanes could fly, but that was it. reindeer absolutely could not fly, they didn't even have wings! how can anyone be so deliberately ignorant that they could ever think reindeer can fly?

I felt the same way in my Sunday school classes. They sounded like stuff in a storybook.

I feel that way reading Fark. These can't be real people, can it?

Your sentence is impaired.

History: what is it?

NVM, you are oblivious, no?

Please don't answer.

Thank you.

Don't ask questions if you do not want to be answered. I am not oblivious, but you are either willfully obtuse or merely addle-minded to think I would allow a race-card to be played without a retort. Don't EVER dare to call, or through a thinly veiled reference, call me or color me a racist.
You have no place or right to do so and you are sorely mistaken.

My original point was you should not be so injured by such an innocuous bit of slang. But I gather it must be because the chip on your shoulder is large enough to be an actual handicap. You have issues. You should avoid the "Internets" because you will likely see and hear things that will hurt your delicate sensibilities.

I just want you to know that two spaces between your comments really spoke to me. Thank you.

Old eyes buck-o. When you hit my age sometimes the text swims around on the page after the 9th or 10th hour of programming.
Have a nice night kid.

/Welcome to Fark?

Yes yes yes, I know it was likely trolling. But racial trolling is disgusting and I will not allow someone to paint me in such a light.
And I'm bored too, this compiler is making me nuts so I needed a diversion lest I go mad and start yelling at this accursed C## horror.

whats wrong with ur compiler?

It refuses to overlook my errors DAMMIT.
LOL, I hate programming, REALLY I do. It is my damnation I am good at it. I wish it didn't pay so well. That would make it easier to quit doing it.
Bills keep coming though. So, I hack away. I write, therefor I am.

I hear ya... same problem here... I decided to go completely off my rocker and start coding in an old new language recently and am finally loving coding again.

So, to be clear, we should encourage children to lie?

So, to be clear, you don't lie ever?

The Muthaship: sendtodave: How does having children change one's views on the value, the necessity, of truth?

Stay on topic, Mao. We're talking about preserving a tradition held dear by many. The cost of doing so is keeping your f*cking mouth shut on one tiny matter. I'm shocked that a busy body teacher couldn't pull it off. I have 2 kids who know there's no Santa, and one that doesn't. None were harmed, in fact we've had a great time like millions of others have.

Tradition, mythology, potato, potahto.

I'd be lying if I said that I don't.

So, no, I never lie.

ta-da... Congratulations.. you are human.

Maybe if you didn't tell lies to your children you wouldn't have to use outrage and intimation on those that speak the truth.

Santa Claus is a gateway drug to Jesus. They need him and they know it, hence all the outrage at truth that threatens their next generation of junkie. It's a sick cycle of lies and abuse but what else is new?
