For those of you who are new to the "Quinn on the piano" meme, here's the original thread. Here's a google list of some of the copypastas of the original thread. I think Quinn has so far been killed by lawn darts, drunk drivers, black feet, BBQ Gas tank explosion, and Kim Jong Il. This is the first time that I am aware of that Quinn has died as a result of Obama mandated vaccination,

Yeah, in my experience, this is mainly a phenomenon of left-leaning Whole Foods-type soccer moms, with right-leaning homeschooler conspiracy theorists trailing way behind. I've read in several places that the Bay Area is the epicenter of it.

It's not really partisan stupidity, it's just stupidity.

On a related note, can anyone post the Babyquarium thread again that started all this? I feel like feeling like I'm going to hell for laughing at something today.

Here it is. Somehow I'd missed all this the first time around.

Long story short: a thread on the Duggars losing a baby brings down the standard Fark-hate. Posts come in from an incensed Farker whose wife had lost a baby a few years ago, including a picture of the small memorial shadow-box (which contains, among other things, the remains). This post is confirmed real, and an unusually mean-spirited meme, even for Fark, is born.

...and I officially regret giving the troll a 9/10, knowing what I know now. Leave that meme in the past.

You do realize the influenza kills? That on average 200,000 people will be hospitalized every flu season? That in any given year 3000-50000 will die from it?

The flu is not a minor inconvenience, it is a major farking killer.

This is Quinn's remains. He sits atop my piano. He was KILLED by vaccinations that the government forced on us. If it weren't for Obama and his healthcare reform, NONE of this would have happened.

First off, sorry for your loss. shiat happens and it's never good. My little Quinn is alive and well (and female, guess the name is multi gender) and vaccinated and while I dread the chance of an allergic reaction with each of my children I would do it again each time. They work, Allergic reactions / adverse reactions happen, and when they give you the odds they sound great until it's yours. So it sucks.

However, I'd take that odd with any of my child if it kept the much more larger odds of them dying by the things they protect against. They aren't million to one odds when you get some of the ones you're being vaccinated against, or the others.

You can go fark yourself for blaming Obama for this though, that's idiotic. Vaccines have been required by law for over 40 years, as I have them and I'm over 40 years old and to go to school in the 70s I had to have them. nixon was in office, he's a republican. It's his fault.

huh. Odd. The only antivaxxers I know are Scientologists. Every single Christian I have ever known vaccinates their children, is happy to go to doctors and take full advantage of medical science, and doesn't particularly have any issue with science in general.

Extremists and fundamentalists, on the other hand, regardless of what religion/school of thought they claim, "can't be counted on to think rationally about" anything. So I guess that puts you in the extremist camp, since you clearly cannot be counted on to think rationally about anyone who believes in a power greater than... you?

Noticeably F.A.T.: CrazyCracka420: A whole "thousands" of deaths a year? My god, call the wahmbulance.

The point it that most of those deaths are pretty easily preventable. Sure, the flu might only cause 0.0001%* deaths in the US, but with a very small amount of effort that number could be 0.000000001%*. So, why the f*ck aren't people putting forth that effort?

/*Yes, those numbers are pulled out of my ass. The point still stands.

The first antivaxers are dead, most likely; it's hard to remember sometimes that vaccines have been around for over 200 years.

This presents a problem, because the originators of the modern form of the antivax movement likely aren't just making this crap up. The ones who did that were their forebears: what the modern antivaxers are guilty of is confirmation bias, not wholesale fabrication. This is unfortunate, because it means you can't just expose them as frauds: they actually don't know they're wrong. Instead you have to disprove the hypothesis, which is a much harder task.

Those people are always there, and they're nothing if not predictable.

What's behind the movement? Somewhere, someone HAS to know that they're making this crap up. What is the purpose? Is there a purpose? It doesn't make any sense!
