Nine months and not sitting up? What's wrong with them?

You can find an infant swim instructor near you. Infant Swim Self Rescue.

Every infant/toddler/child should know how to swim. It would save countless tragedies every year.

Not to mention it makes a great party trick. *throws baby in pool*

I remember seeing a report a few decades ago about a movemernt of people giving birth in water. The baby is litterally born under water. supposedly it is easier on the mother and less of a shock to the baby. As soon as the little sucker swuirted out it would imediately stat swiming. Keep in mind that a baby just spent 9 months in a liquid environment. We are born knowing how to swim. Those that cannot swim had to unlearn it.

The swimming is amazing, but what kids aren't sitting up or crawling at 9 months old? It took all kinds of parent-fu to keep those kids corralled once they started crawling.

Not incredible at all. I have a friend who teaches babies to swim. She prefers to have the baby handed to her straight out of the womb. The younger they are, the easier it is to teach them. This is because babies are born without a fear of water. They learn the fear from their mothers. She does not allow mommies in the pool during lessons because they tend to be very nervous; the babies pick up on this immediately and become frightened. Babies naturally attempt to swim and all she has to do is help them learn to coordinate their movements so that they can swim purposefully. It's actually rather impressive to watch.
