"Congress would recess for the holidays"

Obama's bound to have some fun with that - since Muslims don't celebrate Christmas, he won't mind coming into work every day.

Well I guess that means we bring all the good looking gals to the underground bunkers... Y'know, to re-populate.

FTFA: "Under one variation of this Doomsday Plan, House Republicans would allow a vote on extending only the middle class tax cuts and Republicans, to express disapproval at the failure to extend all tax cuts, would vote "present" on the bill, allowing it to pass entirely on Democratic votes"

Meanwhile, in 2007

So NOW everyone magically understand Senate Procedure.

If they tank the economy, Obama will never get reelected.

FTFA: As one senior Republican in Congress told me, "You don't take a hostage you aren't willing to shoot."

The fact that this is a dubious, unattributed quote aside, if someone actually said this, the implications are pretty amazing.

If the Democrats were feeling really trolly could they all vote "Present" too?

Republican = terrorist

Not exactly a crazy leap to make at this point.

Everything out of the GOP's mouth is 100% bullshiat until Dec 31. Then it's "miraculous, last-minute deal" time, just like with the government shut-down.

I really don't mind the "fiscal cliff". The Bust Tax Cuts need to go, and Defense needs to get cut. If the GOP wants to hurt their already nearly-dead brand by fighting the Dems on tax cuts for the middle class going into the midterm elections, so be it.

This story sounds very familiar... It's like I just read it on Fark last night.

The Evil That Lies In The Hearts Of Men: If the Democrats were feeling really trolly could they all vote "Present" too?

Yes, they could, but they wouldn't. However, I recall a couple years ago Boner and company allowed one of their teahadists to bring up a budget proposal that made Paul Ryan's look like liberal wet dream, expecting all the dems to vote against it and only a handful of Republicans so they would all say they were trying to pass a hard line budget...and the dems voted present, leaving the Republicans scrambling to vote down the stupid budget plan.

Epic trolling at its finest there. If dems DID vote present this time, Republicans would have to scramble to get their side to vote for it, completely shattering their strategy.
