There's a certain magnificent elegance to the president's war on inequality. It licenses him and his administration to do anything. More spending on the traditionally marginalized? Whatever it takes. Get the rich to pay a little more? It goes without saying.

Undermining the ability of private orgs like unions to address income inequality forces Americans to allow the govt to do it. Surprise!

The vast majority of Americans want Congress to compromise.

What does that mean? That means they want the other side to capitulate.

You don't do it out of the 'goodness of your heart'.

You do it because if you capsize the boat because you don't think the other rowers are paddling hard enough, you can say you've won. But you still have to get to shore.

That is, if you make the country worse, you've still got to live in the more-miserable lousy shiathole you've created.

Conservatives seem to forget we are two weeks away from mass riots. That's not hyperbole, that's fact. I don't mean the "little people" will riot over anything, but take away the ability to feed their families, and they'll riot. Why else, with all the harping on it, do they keep extending unemployment? Because the 1% know they'll be first to get "neckties".

Here's one of this guy's articles from October:

When the welfare state runs out of money, people don't pitch in and say let's fix this thing "so the government can equitably distribute superior benefits" again. They start blaming the other guy. They don't mildly suggest that the rich should pay a little more. They demand that greedy bankers and insurance companies go to jail.

Let them eat cake, said the ancien régime's Marie-Antoinette. À la lanterne, bawled the Paris mob.

Yep. What you got here, guv'nor, is a pre-revolutionary situation.

Huh. That's actually a pretty good argument (by American Thinker standards).

And NOW, he says:

The only reason we conservatives are interested in a grand bargain on entitlements is out of the goodness of our hearts. Our naked self-interest would be to crash the entitlements, and the sooner the better, because we reckon that we, members of the responsible-self cult, will be able to rescue something for ourselves from the crash. After all, we are the makers; the 47 percent are the takers.

But we know that the 47 percent, the folks who depend on the government for their very existence, are the ones going to get hammered when the money runs out. And we feel compassion for them. So we propose to "do something" about it.

But there is a price for that compassion. It is that Democrats take responsibility for their little people, the women and minorities who will be hardest hit when the welfare state goes Greek. It's only fair.

And NOW he's saying the poor should be thankful for their cake.
