45 minutes to clear the ice?1?! I'd be furious as a fan and even more so as the coach of the visiting team. Local team here does this--granted they only do about 10,000 bears, but they can clear the ice in about 3-5 minutes. They get a bunch of minor hockey players to go out and throw them into big bins as quickly as they can and then they push the bins off.

You sound like a blast to hang out with, and would probably find ways to make Fun at least 40% more efficient.

....beeeeeecaaaauuuuse a WHL team had their one annual game featuring charity donations to needy kids and it took extra time to clear the ice?

I can see your point!

Minor league team I work for is doing this Friday night. They're hoping for 4,000. Should be fun.

They only have the one key and they can't remember which rock is the fake one.

The best part about this form of donation is that greedy-ass charity CEO's can't skim 30% off the top to line their own pockets. Unless they like bear skin pockets.

It happened like it was at the end of OT but the description says otherwise...

minor league hockey FTW, if you ever want to have a great time and only spend like 20 bucks doing it go to a game. Great for dates too, women love the violence and speed of the game even if they don't really know the specifics.

Ummm...

In all, more than $2-million worth of toys and other donated goods went missing from, or never reached, the charity's main distribution warehouse in North York.

The bulk of the missing items were discovered last week at two other warehouses, in Brampton and North York.

The former executive director of the Salvation Army's warehouse, David Rennie, and a second suspect, Umaish Ramrattan, were arrested and face multiple theft-related charges.

Who knew there was a black market demand for teddy bears?

I wish I could convince my boyfriend to go to a game at some point, but I don't see that happening. He doesn't really follow sports; and, he doesn't like loud noises, so sitting anywhere near me wouldn't work. I plan on trying to catch a few Admirals games this year if I can, though.

/I'm two for two on dating guys who don't follow sports, not sure how that happened

This is my favorite Christmas event. Every year I love watching people throw the stuffed animals onto the ice. I would probably go out of my way to go to this particular event. I've wanted to take part for awhile now.

Since you were there, I have a couple of questions:

* I noticed that the nets behind each goal were taken out. Is this a standard in the WHL, or just for this game to facilitate the tossing?

* What happens if the Hitmen get shut out?

The bears are being tossed to the side then over the boards. If you watch close you can see a few bouncing off the nets.

As a teddy bear, I would just like to say, hey, stop throwing the brothers on the ice. Oww.

So how many bears are decapitated by skates?

This is at the Saddledome, which the Hitmen share with the Flames. The nets are normally in place for all games there. They were down for this game to accommodate the teddy bear toss. Every WHL arena I've been in (Centrium in Red Deer and Medicine Hat arena) has netting, so I think it's pretty standard fan safety at this point.

I don't think they've ever been shut out at the teddy bear game, but my guess is that everyone would chuck their toys at the final whistle of the game regardless.

I'm not trying to take anything away from the charitable nature of event or anyone's fun. I'm just trying to understand why this particular rink apparently takes 45 minutes to clear the ice when I've been to several of these things that didn't take more than a few minutes to clear the ice. Wouldn't it be more fun to get back to hockey quickly than spend 45 minutes watching some old guy pick up bears one at a time or however the fark they do it that takes 45 minutes.

I prefer the NFL's 3 hour long broadcasts for a 1 hour game.

Yeah guy in suits.
