I love how they bury this half way through the article, after like ten paragraphs of "some people say"

While lots of taxpayer money was at stake either way, the difference in the funding source meant that the Tesla loan "does not have the same buy American requirement," investigators from the Energy Department's inspector general told ICE, according to records.

Citrate1007: Do all DoD contractors have a buy American only clause?

The Buy American clause is one of the general flowdowns, but to nitpick it says only that they should prefer buying American, and can get exemptions should there be availability issues, costing issues, or other silliness (in a catchall, like 'against the public's interest' or somesuch).

i found it suspicious that the tesla plant is not required to have federally licensed meat inspectors. those meat inspectors are usually required to ensure the safety of the end consumer, but for some reason they dont need to be there

the FDA claims its because they make cars and not meat, but it still seems suspicious to me

i bet obama is behind it, as part of his conspiracy to create green energy

The GOP is going to spend the next four years trying desperately to find an Obama scandal. Bush had Iraqatrinacession, Clinton had Blowjobgate, Reagan had Iran-Contra, Nixon had Watergate...seems like every two-termer starts stuffing WH closets with bonepiles on Term 1, Day 1. The good news is, it seems to be getting to them that they can't make anything stick, so they try weaving ever-more farfetched tales of intrigue. They thought Clinton was coated with Teflon - Obama's apparently forged from it, and the GOP is driving itself insane.

Time will tell if Obama's different. I'm guessing it stays away from his inner circle, but there will always be dumbheads like Petraeus in positions of power.

Let's compare it to other famous greens. What's Obama's connection to the green party in Iran? There's soylent green - have we discovered Obama's secret plan to replace food stamps? There's also green eggs and ham, so why aren't there FDA meat inspectors? Why does Tesla get a pass on those?

The real crime is Tesla was given a big federal loan to build a green car only the wealthy could afford, if the wealthy actually wanted one.

Not surprisingly, the company is suffering massive losses yet Obama calls it "a symbol of promise, an example of what's possible here in America."

You mean Petraeus-gate won't have legs? The scandal will be why the Justice Dept (Holder) stuffed it under the carpet until after election day. They have known since August. This one hasn't even started yet.

Eric Cantor knew before election day and didn't say anything. It's a non-starter.

The "scandal" that had the public going "meh" 3 weeks ago? Yeah, that's sure to get everyone het up. Unless there's some bombshell revelation (like Petraeus' farkbuddy was Obama's coach before the first debate), I doubt this is going to have any effect on Obama (Petraeus wasn't "inner circle").

And even if Justice held information until after the election, that's not criminal. Sure, Congress can impeach the president for whatever fool reason they want, but even if that is true, I doubt it's enough to sell impeachment to any but the derpest thinkers.

The strongest suggestion that even the GOP secretly thinks it doesn't have legs is that Eric Cantor knew about it before the election and still didn't say anything. If this is an impeachment-worthy offense, surely it would have been enough to sink re-election chances, eh? And yet, nothing.

I love how DOE officials had to explain to ICE investigators that Tesla never received stimulus funds. I've only seen that reported no less than a dozen times this election season. The conservative echo chamber strikes again.

Tesla wins, folks. Better argument, better product, happy customers. These dinosaurs need to roll over and die already.

While I would definitely prefer that government dollars went to a company makin electric cars for the masses, Tesla is having no problem selling cars. There are long wait lists jus to buy one.

The irony being that Petraeus is a lifelong Republican, and he's the one who goes down by a scandal.

I think it might've been a smart move to have Rahm go back to Chicago. Even if he doesn't have a shelf full of skulls in his boudoir, he is the type who can draw unnecessary fire. That's good for some situations, but not others when your enemies will try to make the kind of mustard you eat a news item.

Bolded the important parts for emphasis.

As battery technology improves, charging stations increase, and production capacity grows, the prices will drop. You'll see lower end electric cars sell in the $20-$30k range as opposed to the $36k+ range.

Maybe if the oil industry hadn't strong armed the car manufacturers into abandoning R&D on these things in the early 90's we'd already be there.
