Why? At this rate it'd be a competetion to see who keels over on stage first, with John McVie and Mick Fleetwood the top contenders unless Lindsey Buckingham has a coronary event while shredding his guitar. I doubt it'd be Stevie Nicks for some reason.

Strangely enough nobody ever tells that to blues musicians. Granted, if we're talking about cawk rawk, there's a definite expiration date, but how would that category apply to Fleetwood Mac? I think they were in their 30s when Rumours came out.

/Teenage angst nu metal bands in their 30s are even more embarassing...

It's amazing how many people don't know this.

Anyway, if you're really, really in to this era of Mac (which, judging by the fact that I've never found a greatest hits of the pre-Buckingham & Nicks era Mac, chances are people are) I'm sure it'll be okay. And by okay I mean exorbitantly priced gigs that fifty- and sixtysomethings with burnable income will flock to.

unfarkingbelievable: Sorry, beg to differ. The artist has perfectly captured Stevie's face in her renderings. I wish I could draw such "bad art."

Technically, the artist is quite proficient, in that the drawing looks exactly like Stevie Nicks. However, the composition is cliched and quite awful, and when put into context with her other works lends this creepy lesbian stalker vibe to the whole thing.

Upon closer inspection of this particular drawing we also note a number of flaws:

(1) The artist has apparently never seen an actual owl.
(2) Stevie's center of mass does not appear to lie above her rather bizarrely shoed feet. She should be falling over backward, although perhaps her heels are anchoring her to the ground.
(3) Stevie does not appear to be twirling in the drawing. As far as I know she has been in continuous twirl mode since approximately 1987.
(4) The drawing is missing a caption: "They said I could be anything I wanted...So I became a coke fiend."
(5) The dog in the drawing has entirely different lighting on it than tambourine-playing Stevie. Either the giant floating head of Stevie is casting a shadow on it, or the artist can't draw dogs very well, or else the dog is far in the background, and therefore enormous--perhaps it is Clifford the Big Red Dog.
(6) What exactly is going on in the drawing anyway? Stevie appears to be enjoying a little crepuscular tambourine thwapping while a dog sniffs her vagina and a tiny mis-shapened owl attacks her, perhaps attracted by the flapping of a scarf that seems inconveniently located for optimal tambourine usage.

1. Tempo too fast
2. Shorter arrangement of the song robs it of the slow build that makes it so effective
3. The entire battery's been tuned up so high that there's no longer any balls to the sound
4. Having played this after every game for 35 years, the band is so bored with it that each section entertains itself by adding semi-coordinated visuals, detracting from the overall effect
5. The students are no longer drunk during performance

Hi, Prank! My comment comes from someone who can't even draw a realistic stick figure! :) You sound like a talented artist (your comment about different lighting and shadow, an observation I have no ability to even conceive of making) and I am nicely envious -- meaning, I think you are so lucky! If I could draw or paint ... my life would be so much more fun and amazing, I think.

That's sad to hear but completely understandable. He's constantly on "11" and doesn't seem to know how to back off to save his voice. Too bad, he's a gifted songwriter.

CSB: About a decade ago I was delivering some advertising comps to a local radio station early one morning. There, in the studio, was Lindsay Buckingham, doing a live promo for a local appearance. He played "Bleed To Love Her" like his life depended on it. It was depressing in a way - he was sining his heart out for a bunch of drive-time listeners in between ads for used cars and a mattress store.

Sex Pistols. Maybe Nirvana (I never could get into In Utero, though I tried). But of course those were rapid flameouts who had important band members die young, so I guess that's different.

The B-52s get a lot of credit for a band that made one great album, one good album, a whole lot of shiat, then one more good album, then more shiat.

Is the unlikely tag on vacation this week? I love me some Mac, but c'mon Stevie!

Saw her recently in St. Augustine. Not a bad show. She didn't have the voice of her 70's self, but most performers on the "let's make some mortgage money" tours don't (a notable exception is Ann Wilson of Heart - she still kicks ass).

That's why I won't go to see classic rock bands/my favorite 80's bands anymore, the lead vocals are often painful to listen to. Completely different from The Mac but I love Echo & The Bunnymen and the last time I heard them live, Ian McCulloch had that half-talk/half-sing thing going on. Sad, but inevitable. Even worse is when they have someone hiding in the shadows do all the parts that require a sustained line and even tone.

Given what I've seen her wearing, I don't think those shoes qualify as "bizarre" for Nicks - more like "what I slip on to walk to the bathroom." I think she has lead embedded in her stage shoes to keep her from teetering, and the rise in the heels is limited by the FAA to visual flight rules.

(5) The dog in the drawing has entirely different lighting on it than tambourine-playing Stevie.

Speaking of cliches, I think that's a wolf - but you're right, could be anything.

And just for the record, I suck at drawing even more than you. I can't even draw a map to my place for parties, thank Jebus for Google maps.

It shocks me that Fark has this much anti-Mac sentiment.

Sure, Lindsey Buckingham looks frickin ancient. The last 10 years have not been kind to his face. The rest of them look just as old as they did back in "The Dance" reunion concert like 10 years ago.

Sure they aren't as good without Christine McVie. They still rock. Their voices still sound awesome.

Slow To Return: Madbassist1: really sloppy, blues band.

I think that's how the blues are supposed to work...

no argument from me.

I understand that, though like with any artist they take 5 percent of her music and overplay that, while ignoring the rest.

Jim from Saint Paul: It shocks me that Fark has this much anti-Mac sentiment.

If they had McVie along I would 100% go and grab a ticket.

/34 years old
//"The Dance" blew my frickin mind when I saw it on MTV
///back when they played music

They can have as many reunion tours as they want. They'll never top this.

Great bit.

Loved it. Still jammed out that Big Love guitar solo.

flaminio: Can't be no Fleetwood Mac anymore now that all their Bobs died.

/RIP Bob Weston, Bob Welch, & Bob Brunning

Fark me, I didn't know Weston had died earlier this year. Shame, his work on "Hypnotized" is some of my all-time favorite. I'll lift a pint in his honor this evening.

/all that matters is the feeling

CarnySaur: Hawk24: Article doesn't say whether or not Christine McVey will be joining them. I don't believe she participated in the last tour. Too bad....her keyboards and voice were pretty central to their sound.

This. The lack of Christine McVie was what kept me from seeing them on the last tour.

And here she is in her prime, singing her composition "Believe Me" from Mystery to Me. Bob Weston on guitar, along with Bob Welch, Mick and John.

She's a much better songwriter than she's generally given credit for - a lot of what I think of as "classic" Mac is her tunes.

/nice bum, too

before Nicks and Buckingham, they were an over-rated, really sloppy, blues band.

/someone had to say it.

Anything before Rumors doesn;t exsist to me.

So once you're done with Tusk and Rumors, you put in the others and pretend to like them? Decent band, but no where near as good as their press warrants.

Your image is blocked at work so I'll just assume it's a cat of some sort with a zany caption. I was simply pointing out that, like them or not, they did generate a large body of work : 17 studio albums, 12 compilation albums, 69 singles, and 12 music videos according to wikipedia.

And while I do admit occasionally fast-forwarding through some of Jeremy Spencer's far too numerous Elmore James covers and the occasional Penguin track, there's very little in the catalog to object to.

mhd: The One True TheDavid:

You're too damn OLD.

Strangely enough nobody ever tells that to blues musicians.

Different aura. Blues, jazz, classical and folk aren't so "youth-oriented."

It's like having a 70 year old star in a Disney movie.

H31N0US: How is it that a band can have one good album and still be talked about so many years later. It's not as if they have a body of work like the other bands of the day: Aerosmith, Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin etc.

Ditto the Eagles. One good album.

Go away...and thanks for the earworms.

/Dum, da da da, da da da da da, dum.

Probably because they along with the Eagles pretty much completely dominated the air waves back in 1976. They didn't just have a couple of big hits and that was it. They came to define American music* the world over the same way the Beach Boys did in the 60s.

After that disco took over.

*By that point Fleetwood Mac definitely were an American band.

I'd use Tusk as a coaster on the coffee table, but I'm on record (ahem) for preferring the Kirwan/Welch era.

Besides, why buy Fleetwood Mac or Rumors when you can hear that on any Clear Channel or Curtis Media station every half hour or so.

/your band sucks

Because of the rest of the crap you have to listen to in between.

We are still talking about Fleetwood Mac, right? Not exactly the music to dry hump under the bleachers. Stevie Nicks is basically the patron saint of 30-ish "spiritual" single mothers.

deanayer: They even plan to rent a C-5 to fly Stevie's ass around to each concert where it will be reconnected once inside the arena.

The Antonov 225 is bigger, which is what they will need to haul all the cocaine they will need for each show.
