No lady complains when they are included in "amigos" concerning a collective group.

Its not all about sexism, it is about linguistics.

Lets look at the etymology of the word "man"

From Middle English man, from Old English mann ("human being, person, man"), from Proto-Germanic *mann- ("human being, man"), probably from Proto-Indo-European *man- ("man") (cf. also *men- ("mind"). Cognate with West Frisian man, Dutch man, German Mann ("man"), Norwegian mann ("man"), Russian муж (muž, "male person"), Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬱 (manuš), Sanskrit मनु (manu, "human being").

While the word "man" to describe humans collectively is certainly going out of style, even today the word still retains that meaning.

/However, other Germanic languages have moved on to use "mensch" or something similar (cognate in English is obsolete "mannish") instead of using "man" in a collective sense
//English, however, is really one farked up language

Tell us general, is it party time?
If it is can we all cum

Don't think that we don't know
Don't think that we're not trying
Don't think we move too slow
It's no use after crying
Saying

2012-12-03 08:49:16 PM
So, how many of the construction crew were women? Was the sign literally true?

Or you could just say "people".

2012-12-03 08:52:31 PM
To better reflect reality, they changed the signs to

MEN "WORKING"

2012-12-03 08:53:12 PM
The sign really should read, "LOOK DOWN"

2012-12-03 08:53:27 PM
What wrong with men at work?

2012-12-03 08:54:38 PM
Cis-gravitied scum shoulda checked their privilege.

"Hey, I saw two people and a people arguing over at this one people's house."
"Secret: Strong enough for a people, but made for a people."

What about bathroom signs? Do you go in the one marked "People" or the one marked "People"?

This is stupid. Idealism is normal in college, but adults should not allow it to go too far.

The singular for people is person. SEXIST!

2012-12-03 08:56:16 PM
Let's compromise and put up "women working" signs in front of all kitchens.

Construction Persons Working ?

What a NSFW personhole might look like. (I had to suffer, so should you.)

If you go to the right kind of areas, you can see signs that say "Men" Working.

/Don't judge me

Hey, idiots, Subby lied. Read the story. Nobody fell.

If they wanted to be accurate, those signs should read "Illegals Working"

2012-12-03 09:05:33 PM

untaken_name: So, how many of the construction crew were women? Was the sign literally true?

Of course not. It was construction work, not updating Facebook.

2012-12-03 09:06:54 PM
"Men at work" is admittedly easier to fit on a sign than

"Statistically likely to be men at work, but possibly might in admittedly rare circumstances be men and a woman working. By the way, watch your step."

Yo dawg, in English when you have a group of unspecified or mixed gender you use the male form of the pronoun.

This is like middle-school English motherfarker, if you can't deal with that as a college professor please turn in your credentials for immediate incineration.

I wish I had that person's problems.

Does the sign convey a possible construction hazard? Then it did its job.

Hey, idiot. It's fark. It's not news.

The story doesn't mention if the sign was factual.

Were there actually men working or not?

Obviously the Lamestream Media and other libby factions made subby make things up just to make a bastion for truth and reality like NRO is look bad. For their next trick they'll turn foetuses into whine.

That Guy...From That Show!: The story doesn't mention if the sign was factual.

Were there actually men working or not?

Exactly. The sign was suppose to read:

"Men Working Sometimes"

2012-12-03 09:20:06 PM
This is just overkill not one person fell down under.

2012-12-03 09:20:56 PM
10,000! 10,000! 10,000!

2012-12-03 09:21:25 PM
A construction crew working on the campus of Ohio's Sinclair Community College was forced to halt work until it removed a "Men Working" sign that was deemed "sexist" by a college administrator

It certainly offers proof that academia is not made up of our best or our brightest.
