The franchise should be terminated

That's too bad, they could have just closed the loop with one final movie ending with Reese and the terminator getting sent back. But they have to beat the shiat out of the horse.

The franchise is essentially rebooted every movie.

1 was great. 2 was better. 3 was pretty pointless except I liked the ending. It really made total sense of how John Connor became the leader of the human resistance. He was a calm voice and he was where the orders were supposed to come from. The last one was a mess

2012-12-03 11:14:24 PM
Just give it to Michael Bay and be done with it. At least that way the franchise can die in a giant explosion instead of a whimpering conference room.

So we get a crappy reboot of Conan instead of King Conan. Now they want to reboot Terminator? Just, no.

Movie series don't end anymore. . .they just get to the point where studios no longer find it profitable to produce more sequels.

No matter how much you tie things together, and never plan to make another movie. . .it'll happen eventually if there's any money to it.

First Terminator: A nice sci-fi twist on monster movies with a surprisingly well-crafted story and villain.

Second Terminator: A special effects showcase retread of the first movie, but improving upon the original in every way without ruining it. How every sequel to a surprise hit should be done.

Third Terminator: Completely unnecessary, wrecks the continuity, makes adult John Conner thoroughly unlikable. A blatant cash grab for everyone involved.

Terminator TSCC TV series: Idiotic characters doing increasingly idiotic things with the occasional awesome scene featuring Summer Glau as a Terminator or Shirley Manson as a T-1000.

Terminator 4: Cue Picard asking "WTF is this shiat?"

I can see it now, Jason Momoa as the Terminator, Gina Carano as Sarah Connor, and Michael Fassbender as Reese (just so they can have one good actor in the bunch). With Schwarzenneger doing a cameo as the landlord ("Buddy, you got a dead cat in there?").

Well, the original ending called for John to die in that attack, and they skinned him and put his skin over Marcus, and Marcus would impersonate Connor from then on out.

Test audiences utterly hated it, as in despised it.

The whole "heart transplant" thing was a last minute re-dub/re-shoot late in post production to change things based on the test audiences.

secularsage: Terminator TSCC TV series: Idiotic characters doing increasingly idiotic things with the occasional awesome scene featuring Summer Glau as a Terminator or Shirley Manson as a T-1000.

I have to disagree with you on this. TSCC was one of the best real sci-fi shows on TV;it used the trappings of sci-fi to get to the *real* questions science fiction was "meant" to deal with: "What if..?", "Why..?", and "How come..?" Sure, there was some stupidity (the girlfriend comes to mind), but for the most part I liked how the series came together with characters doing mostly what was (to them) sensible, "right", or logical.

I think the "end" of Terminator wouldn't be to destroy Skynet; it would be to teach it respect for other sentient beings (and to respect it equally). I think that's what John Henry's storyline was all about.

It's a good thing the franchise ended in 1992, except for the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

FTFA: EXCLUSIVE: Nearly 18 months after Megan Ellison pledged over $20 million for the rights to finish The Terminator's humanity vs the Skynet cyborgs storyline with a new series of films, she has finally closed the complicated rights deal with Pacificorp. Other than the fact no progress has been made all this time on a script, the surprise here is Ellison has enlisted her brother, David Ellison, to be her financial and creative partner. There is still no studio attached, but future Terminator films will be done as a co-production between her Annapurna Pictures and his Skydance Productions.

I totally agree about TSCC and where it was headed. The eventual creation of an AI was an inevitability, so destroying one proto-Skynet after another only delays the inevitable instead of preventing it. The only way to short circuit the cycle of destruction is by beating Skynet to the punch and displacing it with an AI that has a sense of morality, which I agree was the T-1001's mission. I think her faction of Terminators must have belatedly developed a sense of right and wrong (probably by being TOO advanced, which is why the T-1000 was only used once against humanity in the past), and in they took it upon themselves to fix the sins of Skynet.

We make our own fate. The problem is that the Connors weren't solving the underlying issues, just concentrating on killing Skynet, so the best they were managing was a temporary delay. See Mad_Radhu's post for a better explanation.

I wonder: Was the first Skynet (when the "original" John Connor was alive, one not a child of Kyle Reese) built *BY* John Connor? The brat from the second movie seemed like he knew his way around computers, I'm sure a "normal" Connor could have been part of the team (and was therefore at Skynet's base when it was turned on, and spared to help repair etc only to escape and start a resistance, which led the system to send back a Terminator to kill him, which led to him sending back Reese, which led to him being born of a different father and having a completely different life, which led to...

/When you involve time travel, time's less a river and more a Slinky.
//Each person sent back was from a different alternative universe. This was explored in the show, when Derek and his ex were from different timelines.

Yeah, it was just starting to make sense. Mad_Radhu though took the plot a lot further that I thought about it, although I have to admit I spent of the time thinking about a Glau/Heady/Me threesome and 45 seconds of disappointment for them.
