is this also ped related? as the roids can do bad things to tendons.

i wonder how sound the medical advice was that suggested he try to rehab it first before going the surgery, seeing as he needed the surgery on the other hip.

but im taking bets on what is going to blow out next, shoulder 3:1, elbow 11:1, tricep 2:1

Wow. And here I was wondering if the Braves overpaid B.J. Upton by paying him $75Mill for 5 seasons.

I still think they overpaid, but it's sobering to think they would have to pay a broken down ARod more than $30Mil over the same period. Wow.

Oh the braves signed Upton? I'm hoping the Rays can not have another super magical disney season so the Jays can finally make the playoffs.

THAT GOES FOR YOU TOO O's

so the Yankees have to add 3B to their winter meetings shopping list, along with Catcher and Right Fielder.
Meanwhile, Red Sox give Mike Napoli $39M/3

i could live with a nunez/chavez platoon, if they sign chavez. nunez had some what of a hot bat to end the playoffs.

I really hope I don't see Chone Figgin's lame ass standing at third come April. Didn't Youkillis play a little OF in Boston?

He will be back in time to ruin the Yankee post season though right?

Yeah, what's up with that? Hopefully the Braves backup they picked up last week (Braun?) becomes available again, because we could use a short term, veteran catcher with a little pop in his bat here in Seattle.

Apparently they are shopping Granderson around

Source? Seems counterproductive to me, especially since they gave him that year extension and they're looking for an outfielder.

MLBTR (via Buster Olney) says they are "willing to listen" to trade offers so that they can free up $15 million. When I first read it this morning, it sounded to me like they were being a little more aggressive, so I don't know if it was updated or if I just misread something earlier. Either way though, they are willing to give him up.

I agree that it seems a little counterproductive. Even if they are able to get one quality player in return (say, a C, or a corner OF), they'd still be out a quality CF and they're basically back where they started, except with a little more cash that they probably wouldn't spend anyway. Unless Cashman can really fleece someone, I don't see much of a point.

well here's the thing: while I'm certain money is -a- factor, it's not -the- factor.. at least not this year. Main concern this year is Cashman is probably only looking for 1 year deals. The $189M cap for 2014 looms large, and I'm certain they would really like to lock Robbie up next year.

The biggest target in terms of "flexibility" would be Tex; somehow trading him would do wonders in that department, but I'm pretty sure he has no-trade rights.

Teixeira does have a NTC, but even if he didn't, they'd have a tough time moving him without eating a ton of the contract.

This 2014 thing is really handcuffing them. I think they want to save as much as possible for Cano (which is good), and the 1 year deals are nice ways to compete this year and not hurt next year's budget, but it might catch up to them. Right now, they have a CF, 2B, closer, and 3 SP coming off the books next year - that's a ton of things to get done in the offseason on a limited budget. But at least they didn't do this:

The Bestest: Red Sox give Victorino $39M/3
