Probably because it's utterly impossible to ever have actual peace with any Islamic militia. Not fighting would be, in their eyes, turning their back on god.

A "hudna" is cool with them, though. That's a truce to rearm before resuming the attack on the infidels.

He was the lead singer of the Eagles and best friends with Don Henley, who coincidentally wrote "A whiter shade of pale." He was a legend until his wife shot him in the back and parleyed her relationship with him into a grunge rock career.

"The major obstacle to dialogue with Boko Haram is the involvement of scammers," added Sani.

"Most of the proposals for dialogue are targeted at getting money from the government and the president has on a number of occasions been duped and deceived by people in the corridors of power who usually present fictitious peace proposal that ends up as a scam."

Nigerian scammers scamming their own peace process? Nigeria has elevated scamming to an art it seems.

I would say that the fact that Muslims in the north are completely marginalized by the Christian government in the south and the Nigerian government response to Boko Haram has been extremely heavy handed are the biggest factors for the group gaining strength.

Most Nigerian Muslims don't like Boko Haram, but they are seen as a lesser of two evils because of the way they have been treated by the government.

"Boko Haram" literally translates as "Western education is taboo". I'm sure if you took religion out of the equation, these idiots would find something else to fight about.

No denying their Muslim population. I was trying to point out that despite their slight majority population-wise, they are very underrepresented in the government. There is also an enormous amount of resource disparity between the north and the south, which isn't really anyone's fault, but it isn't helping matters either. And finally, the Nigerian government is meeting extreme violence with extreme violence, further angering the Muslims.

None of this justifies going out and blowing things up of course, but is creates a situation where it can and does happen.

/And yes, Boko Haram hate "western" education. I always giggle when I remember they are literally flat Earthers.

Just what are they angry at the government for? Not making Islam the official religion and switching to sharia law?
