It's artillery propellant, so it's not the stuff that makes the artillery round explode. It's the stuff that explodes inside the artillery tube to push the artillery round downrange. It burns fast and hot but doesn't create an explosion in the traditional sense. If this stuff went off, it would cause a huge, bright fire but not much else. Great for arson, not so great for blowing up Tru:Blood plants.

That's not entirely true. It wasn't a Tru:Blood plant. It was a Tru:Blood plant rehearsal.

Ahem. Subby.

Next time an article talks about 6 MILLION POUNDS OF ARTILLERY PROPELLANT/big>b> LAYING AROUND OUTSIDE IN CARDBOARD BOXES you might emphasize the fact that 6 MILLION POUNDS OF ARTILLERY PROPELLANT ARE LAYING AROUND OUTSIDE IN CARDBOARD BOXES!!1!

I live there and have to say that subbys headline makes no sense at all. "camp' Minden??? Referring to New Orleans doesnt make any sense either since it is almost 300 miles away

So purchasing wasn't informed that inventory had already been filled? Were they producing it but there was no place to send it? To keep the contract and employees going? It's a former ammunition plant being leased, so the explosives are left over from previous company? If the new company produces explosives also why wasn't that mentioned?

I do not feel informed except for that a pile of scary stuff is somewhere and I should be concerned and cluck while shaking my head.

I'm not. IMHO, they killed the show.

The interesting thing about TB was how the vampires coped with maintaining (or failing to maintain) their humanity. While some may have suspected that Bill was duplicitous, it was confirmed at the end of the season 2 years ago. Eric was the one that has the firmer hold on his humanity (compliments of Godric).

The writers painted themselves into a corner. At least with the previous seasons, they more or less followed the basic plotlines of the books. This season they went completely off the reservation. Sookie doesn't choose Eric, Billith, etc. There's no vampire alive or dead that can defeat Lilith. Anything they'd come up with would be contrived nonsense (and don't even think about having Bill beat Lilith from within because his willpower is so great...Bill met the True Death).

6 million pounds of smokeless powder stuffed into warehouses would do a little more than cause a huge bright fire, I would think.

If'n its anything like the plant that 'sploded near my hometown, they are not manufacturing artillery shells, but "demilitarizing" them. We have a crapton of arty munitions laying around from ww2 and korea that has outlived its shelf life. So they find a dumb enough contractor and pay them, say, $1.00 a boxcar load to disassemble the ammo and dispose of the components. Most of the time the components are reloaded into new shells and sold to the civilian market, at least with small arms stuff. Other stuff is recycled for component materials (copper and brass) and explosives are safely disposed of or sold to mining operations and such.

What got these guys in trouble is taking gubmint money without a proper disposal site for the munitions components. Dangerous stuff backed up faster than they could get rid of it. And don't even ask how much of that nitrocellulose walked off the property and into someone's basement 'in case of emergency".

How many megatons is 6 million pounds of explosives/accelerant? Or does it need to be actual TNT before you can call it megatons?

Which is to say nothing of the plotlines involving characters noone gives a damn about. Who cared about the PTSD guy and the djinn going after him? It was annoying to see an interesting bit about vampire politics and then have it cut away to some annoying scene with them. The gay cook is usually great for snappy one-liners but they had him babbling about witches and his dead boyfriend the entire time. These are supporting characters, please stop derailing the narrative with these side-stories.

TOTALLY agreed on that! Hell, the books are simple to read and have all the sex and flash HBO requires, so why screw with the story line?

germ78: How many megatons is 6 million pounds of explosives/accelerant? Or does it need to be actual TNT before you can call it megatons?

really? OK 1 megaton = 1 million tonnes = 2 billion pounds. 6 million pounds (of TNT) = 0.003 megaton. The real answer is that it depends on the energy released in its detonation; 1 megaton = 4.184 petajoules.

It would be a really freaking huge, bright fire, but bright fire it would be. It's not TNT.

instead of scaring the crap out of people the news folks should be interviewing someone like yourself who knows what the freak they are talking about. what with making the town folk move out it sounds like they are probably putting the fear of Jebus into those poor people. news reporters really do suck. remember back in the 60s when they would actually dig in and get info worth reporting? i don't know what the hell happened to the 4th estate in America but its a gotdamm shame IMHO. meanwhile those happy assholes will get their facts straight about the next Lindsay Lohan crisis, you can count on that.

I went back and watched Bill scenes from season 1. From his conversation with Sookie about not trusting him to the first time going into fangtasia, Pam is all "oh, how cute bill is mainstreaming."

I do hope that Bill as we knew him is gone. I don't want it reversed.

Actually, the books are written at a 2nd grade level and are not as good as the show. The book correlating to season 4 had the witches not plotting to kill all the draculas, but rather take over Fangtasia. Stackhouse becomes a warepanther, demons are bouncers. The books are entertaining, don't get me wrong, but the show has much better plots, dialog, and acting.

What the hell kind of farking idiot "artillery officer" are you? It's motherfarking NITROCELLULOSE you dolt; it's not rocket fuel, it's a detonating propellant! The shiat is more powerful than blackpowder, and is the same stuff used as primer in centerfire casings, which is what I suspect this stuff was: the former shell centerpin firing fuses, the detonators that make the rounds launch. It's not a 'constant' fuel, it's a spontaneous detonator, and a rather shock-sensitive one at that! This isn't TNT we're talking about here-- you can whack that with a hammer and it won't go off. No, this is what they used to use in the caps in old-school cap guns.

Will Nitrocellulose burn without necessarily detonating? Sure. But you set it off with a spark and they'll never find your parts.
They evac'd the town for damned good reason.

Yeah everybody has a super power at this point which annoys me.

While we're at it, why are the shapeshifters so scared of werewolves? They seem like just really crippled versions of the shifters since they only do one animal.

I'm glad you said it. I had a very difficult time reading the books because of the immature writing (especially for someone that's a Tom Clancy fan). Part of the reason I was excited for the series is that I thought if they could take the basic storylines of the books they could have an entertaining series.

2012-12-03 05:30:34 PM
fully agree. Show is so much better than the books.

However, I have to say that I like Book Sookie more than Show Sookie. Book Sookie is more proactive and more bad arsed. Show Sookie is trying to catch up

Tho Book Sookie is a little think, me likes Show Sookie...
