iTunes 11 is definitely pretty good. The only complaint I have is with its aesthetics, its UI. Unfortunately, iTunes 11 does not stick to the Aqua UI base and instead has its own. This makes it look a bit out of place. Besides that, everything else is awesome.

They all suck.

I want an mp3 / media player, not a open hole on my platform through which is being shoved unwanted marketing and sales information.

I paid for media, its mine, eff off. And quit suggesting sh*t you think I like, it isn't wanted. If I want your opinion I'll ask for it.

iTunes is still a dog on Windows, though I understand that it's much better on MacOS. If it wasn't for my iPhone, I wouldn't have it installed.

This ^ ^

Buggy, hogs resources, doesn't always play nicely if you jailbreak, and insists that you install that POS Quicktime when all I'll ever use is VLC.

iTunes 11 is terrible. Holy moley, is that thing laggy. It would also freeze while syncing. Whoever designed it decided that beta-testing and QC isn't necessary for something that comes out of Apple, I guess.

Is it just me, or is 2012 the year of Apple high water mark and start of eventual decline?

1) Maps fiasco; executives carnage; leadership in question
2) IOS 6 pulls support for youtube
3) iTunes issues
4) iPad release follies: the "new" ipad came out 2 weeks before the next new ipad, prompting mass returns at stores. Releases out of sync.

Add that to the obvious elephant in the room, the Galaxy / S3 / HTC platforms are all superior and iPhone isnt claiming that title back any time soon.

I just wonder if we're seeing the peak of Apple and inevitable long slide into RIM like irrelevancy.

I don't think Apple is going into a decline. People are still going to buy their products (and especially since they are able to command margins higher than any other manufacturer as a "premium brand") by the millions. I think Apple will no longer be as dominant as it has been within the phone and tablet market, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's in decline just yet.

Yes, it does, subby. All these years later, and it's even more bloated, even more slow, and all kinds of "features" have crept in.

Why does it still require a restart in Windows 7 90% of the software I install these days no longer requires a restart.

Is there a way to change the search bar back to just displaying the results in the main list? The little drop down preview list that comes up under the search bar is laggy as hell.

QFT. Foobar is the clear winner for Windows. Plays fine with IPODs (160g classics anyway, which is all I've tried) as well.

I know what you mean. I habitually check my system resources in spite of having 16GB of RAM and probably never needing to look at it.

iTunes still sucks, though.

Really? I have iTunes 11 on Windows and I think it runs fine, much better than older versions. Granted I have a higher end PC so maybe I'm not getting the full experience, I dunno.

Try a Walkman. It plays MP3s, video, has an FM receiver, and digital recorder. No software needed to copy music and video to it (at least as far as Windows is concerned). Just plug it in and copy/paste via Widows Explorer.

This; I rather have WMP than iTunes on my taskbar while I'm doing something else. WMP is simply easier to look at whatever's playing just by hovering over it on the taskbar. Whereas iTunes you have to maximize to see what's playing.

I wish VLC could do that; really like it but a) no taskbar function, it'll minimize to the system tray and b) won't respond to the media controls on my keyboard, like WMP and iTunes does.

I doubt they'll ever be THAT irrelevant, but with their golden boy now six feet under, yes, Apple has begun to fark up in pretty basic areas.

Reminds me... I need to have a word with the interface designers at Amazon. When I'm clicking through the TV prime listings I don't need to see that you have each season of a series that you have in standard and HD. You should only be showing a list of series, not seasons.

Tried itunes years back; was looking to alternatives to WMP/winamp for playing music (both cd's and mp3's) on my computer at work.

Never mind the requiring of setting up an itunes account, complete with a credit card number, just so itunes would lookup album information for cd's you play (wmp and winamp would do this without any sort of account, much less having to give them your credit card number)... When you uninstalled itunes, it would leave shiat behind still running.

Freaking itunes would leave multiple programs and services running when you boot up EVEN IF YOU UNINSTALL ITUNES.

THAT makes it a virus, frankly.

I have zero reason to use iTunes, so I do not, but when I gave it a try upon its release I hated it. Have been glad ever since that I don't have any Apple products and thus be forced to use it.

True. I've never really liked Apple, but I do own 2 iPods and use iTunes as my media player.
Jobs had a lot of visionary ideas, and he could make people like the ideas that weren't so good. Without him, Apple is going to need to be on their A game for quite a while. And so far, it doesn't quite look like they are.

I feel dirty saying it, but I got a Sony phone and I really love the Walkman app. It's the easiest, slickest music player on a phone I've seen.
