I am so tired of this argument:
"Here's just one thing they should be discussing. Mr. Obama wants to raise tax rates on those earning $250,000 or more, as we know, on the assumption that they are "the rich." But if you are a man with a wife and two kids making that salary and living in Westfield, N.J., in no way do you experience yourself to be rich, because you're not. You pay federal payroll and income taxes, state income and sales taxes and local property taxes, and after the mortgage, food and commuting costs you don't have much to spare."

Sure the author is building a nice strawman there, but I know that strawman. I will call him my father in law. The guy aint farkin hurtin'. He's got a million dollar house on the lake(paid for), he drives a brand new loaded Jeep grand Cherokee and the little woman has a brand new Nissan Murano, and they have a beautiful retirement house down on the eastern shore of Maryland. Raising the rate for income over 250k to %39 is probably going to cost him around $1500-$2000/year. Trust me, it won't make a farking dent in their lifestyle or retirement plans.

Gee, Peggy. A couple of weeks ago you informed us that your "gut" told you that Mitt would win in a romp. Got a tummy ache? The fact it, the Republicans have come up with no budget numbers and no demands. Just a lot of "no's." You guys are good at that. But, this time Obama does not appear willing to bid against himself trying to figure out what you idiots want. Cry more!

FTFDerp: "Why doesn't he shrewdly re-enact Ronald Reagan, meeting, arguing and negotiating in good faith with Speaker Tip O'Neill, who respected very little of what the president stood for and yet, at the end of the day and with the country in mind, could shake hands and get it done? "

10:1 cuts to revenue in 2011 wasn't negotiating in good faith?!?!?!?

This is exactly the point I came here to make.

Peggy Noonan is a talentless, purple prose-writing hack who seems to have a ridiculously inflated sense of her own intellect and insight. Before the election, she was basically claiming that the polls were wrong and that Romney was going to win in a walk. But, AFTER the election, she came back and wrote that she wasn't wrong about anything (Peggy Noonan, of course, says she was right all along).  And, yet, some people still take her seriously.

To the extent the GOP has an elected face, it is that of Speaker John Boehner. And he is precisely the man with whom Mr. Obama should be having friendly lunches.

Remember this is what Boehner looks like around blah people

You think he'll have a friendly lunch with Obama? Besides the blah angle Obama eats his bread and Boehner drinks it

I'll pile on. I have a seventeen year-old cousin who's right-wing father makes about 300K and his wife pulls in another 120K. They live in a McMansion, have several cars (there are three kids total) and literally everything else you could imagine a family wanting and needing. He posted on Facebook the other day how his father refused to buy him a new GoPro Hero3 Black because of the election and how Obama is hurting his family and his freedom. Who does he want the camera? Because the family is taking a two week vacation in the Caribbean.

Tax those farkers.

hour 1 of reading herpaderp comments: It had only been 15 minutes of reading the comments, I started to get a headache and my stomach kind of bothered me. 45 minutes later I came too, I was lying on the floor in front of my computer. My monitor was smashed, my hands bloody. A dead hooker lay beside me. On the wall written in blood was "Please make the derp stop" over and over again. Realizing what had transpired I called my boss and said I was feeling sick and was going home. I set my gps to Mehico and high tailed out of there.

No, he knows damn well what the idiots want. He just knows that giving the rich another tax cut, gutting the safety net programs and hiking taxes on the poor (while invading Iran and throwing even more money into the military) would kill this country.

In fact the Democratic position on entitlements seems to have hardened.

People tend to be bolder when they win. And even more so if they win in a way that lets them know they have the support of the majority of Americans behind them.

Face it, idiot, your ideas are bad and you should feel bad.

December 1st:
"Mr. Romney is not the leader of the party; he left no footprints in the sand. There is no such thing as Romneyism, no movement of which he's the standard-bearer. Nor is he a Washington figure with followers. Party leaders already view him as a kind of accident, the best of a bad 2008 lot, a hiccup."

November 5th:
"All the vibrations are right. A person who is helping him who is not a longtime Romneyite told me, yesterday: "I joined because I was anti Obama-I'm a patriot, I'll join up But now I am pro-Romney." Why? "I've spent time with him and I care about him and admire him. He's a genuinely good man." Looking at the crowds on TV, hearing them chant "Three more days" and "Two more days"-it feels like a lot of Republicans have gone from anti-Obama to pro-Romney. "

GOP's Options:

#1 Increase taxes on wealthy.
#2 Allow the economy to tank and taxes to increase for everyone in order to protect taxes for the wealthy on principle.

This is what you get left with for choices. It is a direct result of being out maneuvered by the democrats while you were busy being obstructionists, attempting to make Obama appear to be a gay-muslim-kenyan-nazi-devil, and passing penis-goes-where-rape legislation. You embraced anti-intellectualism and fostered Tea Tards and Bible Pounders.....this is what you get.

Sounds like a schmuck. At least my FIL is a good guy that worked very hard to get what he has. Then again he doesn't get worked up about politics and throw Obama tantrums. He's also an attorney and is perfectly capable of exploiting every loophole possible. Pretty sure he would just pay it and not grumble or invest the money that would be subject to the higher rates in something to avoid it.

FTFA: At a news conference Thursday, Mr. Boehner looked frustrated. In fact, he looked exactly the way he looked at the end of the debt ceiling crisis in the summer of 2011 -- like someone who wanted a deal, was willing to gamble to get it, and failed.

Huh. If by 'failed', Peggy actually means 'get 98 percent of what he wanted', I wish that I could 'fail' a lot more.

Now wait just a minute - I thought the GOP's number one concern was reigning in the deficit. But now it's starting to look like they care a lot more about keeping taxes low for the wealthiest Americans. youdontsay.jpg

Everyone should know by know the patently obvious - the GOP doesn't give two shiats about "fiscal responsibility." If they did, they'd be lining up to dive over the fiscal cliff. If I didn't know any better I'd think they were just being difficult because they don't like the democrats' budget priorities.

2012-12-03 10:25:34 AM
Mr. Obama wants to raise tax rates on those earning $250,000 or more, as we know, on the assumption that they are "the rich." But if you are a man with a wife and two kids making that salary and living in Westfield, N.J., in no way do you experience yourself to be rich, because you're not. You pay federal payroll and income taxes, state income and sales taxes and local property taxes, and after the mortgage, food and commuting costs you don't have much to spare.

It's too bad that the Conservatives empathy for the poor sap struggling to get by on a mere $250,000 doesn't extend to the half of the American population who get by on 1/5 that amount.

Tighten the squeeze on that couple, and they'll change how they live. They'll stop sending the struggling son to a neighborhood tutor, they'll stop going out to dinner once a week, they'll cut off the baby sitter, fire the guy who once a month does yard work, and hold back on new clothes. Also the guy will peruse employment ads in Florida and Texas, potentially removing from blue-state New Jersey his heartening, taxpaying presence.

Right. So instead we should eliminate those annoying loopholes like the Mortgage Interest deduction to drive someone like this right into bankruptcy instead by crashing the housing market. Let me see...taxes go up on my top income bracket a couple of percentage points, or eliminate deductions. Which would I choose?

Also...Peggy doesn't seem to understand how the progressive tax system actually works.
