Very impressive. Now that he's actually able to move more like a normal dog, they can start working on muscle tone and endurance.

Yay Obie!

How the hell did this dog get so fat? yeesh. What is his optimal weight? 15-20 lbs?

I have a pug (optimal weight 18-20 lbs). His weight is 18 lbs...which is the same weight it was when he was fully grown. And it's the same weight it's been for the past 4 years. Why? I DON'T OVERFEED MY DOG!

Elderly owners suffering from dementia fed him until he was 77 pounds in weight. Their grandson finally convinced them they were harming him and convinced them to give him up.

The home he's in now has been working to bring him down to the 30-35 pound range, which would be just about right for a full sized standard dachshund.

Glad the dog is in a good home now. It's amazing that he's still alive considering how much he weighed.

This dog's gonna be able to run like the wind when he's down another 20 lbs.

Did he come in with the twenty seven eight-by-ten color glossy pictures with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one?

He's chasing food, I presume.

On that surface he'll run worse when he's lighter given the way he is sliding all over :P

My in-laws have four dachsunds that they overfeed. One of them is so ungodly fat (not 77 lbs, but still fat) it's ridiculous. I feel bad for 'em, because they're prone to back injuries to begin with. Overfeeding doesn't help at all.

I can't understand why somebody would want four dachsunds to begin with. Fun dogs, but good god are they territorial.

They can put a couple of sandbags over the drive paws to give him a little more traction on slick surfaces during those snowy winter months.

How does it taste?

You know, with all that loose skin he's going to end up looking like a shar pei mix.

now just remove all the flesh curtains he's gonna have, and he might be alright. Nice jerb getting him to lose weight tho.

damn, did his feet even touch the ground before he lost the weight?

my fear is that he will be so cute with all of his floppy skin that this will create a new trend of people making their dogs morbidly obese then making them lose the weight for the cuteness factor

I had two dachshunds when I was a child. They didn't run, they flew. Nothing like seeing a weiner dog charging full speed at low altitude. Lovely doggies.

Last I heard, the rescue was trying to force the foster home to give him back. The foster home thinks it's because now that he's famous, the rescue wants to get him back so the money from donations goes to them instead of the foster home as well as using him for publicity.

His name is Obie?

Look, I don't have time to follow up on every overweight wiener on the internet, ok?

Kind of sad they had to disable ratings and comments. Probably getting all kinds of nasty hate mail from idiots who didn't even read the description.
