The Dark Knight Rises poster is pretty cool, a claustrophobic look up surrounding by imposing buildings that magically also reveal a portion of the sky in a shape that could be interpreted as maybe possibly looking like the Batman's logo. Very well done.

Star Trek's poster looks like they had a monkey strapped infront of TDKR's poster in an appalling bastardization of the Ludovico technique, and then fling crap at a blank canvas.

As opposed to this Empire poster where they all posed to be photographed like that!

/just busting your balls, I love the old posters too, but it's still a (pre photoshop) composite

The original Star Wars posters are hand-drawn/painted works of art. Modern Photoshopped composites simply don't compare.

swahnhennessy: Why is there a man in a cape on the Star Trek poster?

Actually literally anyone following the movie's development would have instantly recognised that figure.

That's because the only leaked video and photos of the movie are of Benedict Cumberbatch (the Big Bad) in this coat, fighting Spock. And since it's not yet been released who the Big Bad is, people are quiiiite obsessed with it. They're just poring over this looking for clues.

/Why doesn't the firefox dictionary recognise "movie"
//Or "firefox", ironically

Your_Huckleberry: But, about old movie posters, one of my all time favorites is the one from the 1976 remake of King Kong. Yeah, yeah, the movie itself is fairly crummy, but the poster of Kong (not looking anything like the Kong in the movie, by the way-and much larger) straddling the World Trade Center with Jessica Lange in one hand and a freaking El Train in the other is cool.
Now if I could only convince the Wife it'd look cool up on the wall of my office....

Yeah but at least they had imagination, right? Like by the time Revenge of the Sith came around for example, you could just predict...okay paste Anakin's head here, paste Palpatine's head there...any one of us could have done it. They even replaced the awesome posters from the original films with the Photoshopped versions for the "special editions".

Trik: The time travel trope should never be a trivial reset button
The price of using it should be catastrophic

Hence the reason why some people disliked the reboot (time travel, alternate realities, both of which are crutches for the uncreative).

Wait.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the king of unnecessary lens flare
and
Written by Lindelof, master of unexplainable plot holes.

I don't see how this can end well.

I thought this was pretty well known. They have like, four ideas for posters and keep re-using them.

Oblig.

Of course it's a copy. There are no original ideas in Hollywood.

I mean it may be superior, yet Bale/Nolan Batman is a remake too.

If you are judging a movie by it's poster then you aren't actually judging it by it's poster. You have already decided you'll be displeased with the whole movie.

If you hold your hand along the length of your nose, it looks like you are looking at 2 different movie posters at the same time.

Fans of the new Batman films are REALLY hypersensitive about other franchises being derivitive of their babies. I find this odd, personally, because it's the acting and tone that really sets the Nolan Batman films apart. The stories are meh.

I knew vaguely there was going to be another Abrams Star Trek but this is the first I'm seeing anything specific about it.

I guess it's fitting that they stick with the hole-in-the-scenery theme for the teaser poster considering the first film was nothing but holes in the plot.
