(YouTube)   Subby made an exam project in binaural sound. The technology with which you can create a 3D effect in stereo sound. Where else would you find this than the FarkUs tab? Only works through headphones   (youtube.com ) divider line

TommyymmoT: Virtual haircut (skip to 5:30)

Listening to that with headphones and eyes closed was extremely creepy, I could not help but open my eyes a few times and look around.

I can hear the audio move from ear to ear, but how does the third dimension come into play here?

I'll pass, I think this is really Drew testing a mind control device.

Thanks, but it was cooler when I was 13 at Epcot Center.

So, ORTF?

Not sure what I'm supposed to be excited about?

Subby here.
Results may vary since binaural sound is not an exact science.
Binaural sound works by imitating the filtering of sound that happens before it hits your brain. Your earlobes, hair, shoulders, face, cranium etc all filter everything you hear. It's how you can hear that a car is approaching from your back and not the front. The thing is we are all differently proportioned, so one binaural production will never work for everyone. Sorry to those who miss out.

I used both binaural recordings (one mic in each of my ears) for the rain recordings, and I've used a program that mimics the effect on some of the other synthetic sounds.

Shutting your eyes may help. But yea, the reason it may not work for some of you is that this was based off my physics (skinny nerd physics).

This is not ORTF (which is another recording technique).

The up and down dimension is usually the trickiest to recreate, but you should be able to hear that some of the synthesizer tracks are layered in different heights (those that come later in the song should be heard as soaring above the synth that starts the song).

Hope I cleared things up. And thanks for listening.

Oh yea, I forgot to add. Make sure to hear it in hd. Or the effect may deteriorate or not work at all (since some frequencies are left out at lower quality sound).

I fell asleep.

I'm tired, but I took the time to close my eyes while listening to this and by the time it was over I was dosing. This is a compliment. I'm an insomniac.

Good stuff.

Excellent! May I quote you for saying that this music has healing capabilities? It may lead to profits :P
