Spiffy, indeed. And I'm not even a big Dinosaur Jr fan.

I still rock out to Feel the Pain when I'm on the road.

Charles Francis Black.

Black Francis was used because of a songwriting copyright snag. This has been covered hundreds of times. Now you know.

/Prince actually gave him credit for the idea when he used an unpronounceable symbol in the mid-'90s.

I've read English for almost 50 years and I have no clue what that headline says or means.

As you can see from the setlist below, J Mascis and Co. covered The Smiths with the help of Johnny Marr, played a Pixies song with Black Francis and enlisted The Replacements' Tommy Stinson to play The Stooges' classic "T.V. Eye," among other special performances, including appearances by both Kim Gordon and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.

Oh. Hellz. YEAH.

Will be watching this as it becomes available.

Guitar - absolutely.

Vocals - hell no. That was torture. He sounds like some homeless dude playing for beer money.

i recorded a song 25 years ago too.

and although it was recorded on a cassette tape
i'm pretty sure it's as good as any of those bands.

It only makes sense if it's always 1992 in your head.

I've loved Dino and J's guitar and even J's singing since the moment I first heard them:

In the car, dinky left-of-the-dial radio, and I heard two beats of chaotic guitar and then J sang, "This is the way I feel right now..."

I bought that album, then the three earlier, then everything since (plus J's solo and "the fog" and the super-heavy "heavy blanket" which is probably J playing everything.)

It's nice that J, Lou, and Murph are working together again, but I still think that J is absolutely the core of the band.

"....by performing with members of The Smiths, Pixies, Sonic Youth, The Replacements, The Melvins and more other washed out unknown has-beens...."

so , the stage was covered in old and fugly with a smattering of "who?".

before the indignant rage sets in, lets look at the facts shall we? :

-Black Francis/Frank Black/ Charles Michael Francis Kitteridge Progeria Diarrhea Lake and Palmer :
with the exception of the Pixies reunions (which barely broke even and in most markets had slow business), he tours in a rented van playing 1500 seaters or less...
He is also the biggest asshole in the world....

-Kim Gordon / Lee Renaldo:

Unfettered by her obscurity and unashamed of his inability to land a PROACTIV commercial, Deal...err...Gordon and Renaldo scour the countryside in a 1976 Pontiac station wagon looking for gigs to hijack. Last seen at McDonalds stealing condiments...
Who cares...
nice people, but you know what they say...

-Johnny Marr:
at his best, awesome, at his worst, horrible and sadly most of his time is spent in the middle of those two extremes with the exception of The Pretenders and The The. I don't listen to MiniMouse or whtvr they are called.
Also a complete asshole. Not as much as Morrisey, but almost...

Tommy Stinson:
After his brother got murdered by Paul Westerbergs ego, his next big gig was playing in the epic put together band "Velcro Vagina Sandcastle " with other members of Guns n Roses and...some...crap hairpussy band from 1982...
One hell of a terrific guy with horrible career choices....

The Melvins:
They have always excelled at making a big giant racket that puts fear into you and are the least washed up of that lineup.
Nice people with the exception of Buzzo, who makes the word weird afraid for it's job...not that he was mean or an asshole..just...weird....

-REM:
May or may not have been there, but they are arseclowns of the highest order
and who don't like stickin it to REM...

last and least:

Dinosaur Jr:
Who?
Dunno them, never met them but they remind me of that awful Canadian band Slope or Sloan...
my guess is they are actually the same band and as such, are a bunch of knobgobblers in person...

this is my entitled opinion.....

jay from sloan is awesome actually...nicest guy you will ever want to meet...the band ain't that bad but they started out as a Dino Jr ripoff...the rest of that band are pricks...fans too.
they are only surpassed by *matt good fans/band in as far as Canuckistani "who the fark are you people in your own mind again?" types...
(**currently watering his watered down career now i might add...who? you ask? exactly....)

i dunno how much time you spent with "chuck kitteridge farm remembers aka i was in the pixies" but he is an all out dick. the pixies broke up largely because of ego. his ego. oh and kim deal was a junkie...
i love the pixies. how could you not... joey santiago is a peach...

as for the Dino Jr troll, they are as influential and important musically as sonic youth were...i actually love the band... i love pavement too..
i think the word would be "vital" considering all the other BS that got signed in that decade of detritus......

Marr is about as engaging as a low budget whore on her last call of the night and i only know this as when i met him, that seemed to be the company he was keeping...( yeah i dropped it..)
maybe she was a hanger on but she was definitely more interesting conversationally...

Stinson if you ever see him on the street, buy him a coffee. sweetheart. regardless of his guns and blowjobs stint...(people have to work)

my troll was;
a) more about todays youth eating up hipster ubiquitous trash as opposed to understanding the context of why it was important then...same goes for REM.. they were an important thing once...
not because it was "boutique" but because it was good...then...it sucked

b) liven all you stiffs up a bit!

c) poke yet another fanthread so the gushing didn't stray too far off the reality path...

/yes, i have met all these folks in person and not at an autograph signing...

The fact that you think Sloan sounds or has ever sounded anything like Dino Jr. renders most of what you said moot, IMO. And King Buzzo is an awesome dude to meet. I didn't get a weird vibe at all. Got to meet them all and share a meal with them after a show where they opened for themselves. Signed my Ozma CD after. All of the Melvins seemed pretty personable.

Never met a Dinosaur Jr. fan that didn't act like a complete twat after a couple of drinks.

Can't watch it now, but that looks awesome.

Bookmarked for later.
