Please stop greenlighting these. I hate refreshing the Sports page, seeing a new link, getting excited... oh, it's more bs about what hockey players are doing during the lockout. And I'm not some hockey hater- I like hockey. But these links are like when someone at work just has to tell me about the cuh-razy weekend they just had, and I have to pretend to be interested until they're done telling me about their uninteresting hijinks.

Also, it's fake. It's like when someone tells you about their dreams. It's pointless because it isn't farking real.

Since it's all but establish that Cheap Throat is (sometimes entertaining) BS, let's shift to reality for a bit...

It looks like the players agreed to a meeting on Tuesday.. 6 owners, 6ish players, no Bettman or Fehr (though each side will have a handful of lawyers present).

Owners attending will be Burkle (Pens), Chipman (Jets), Edwards (Flames), Jacobs (Bruins), Tanenbaum (Leafs) and Vinik (Lightning).

With Jacobs there, sadly not much will get done whoever else is there... Molson from the Habs would have been an interesting choice but I guess his real business puts him in a bit of a conflict of interest with some of the other 'have' owners.

That's my take on it as well.. though there's a looming sense that this is -it-; that if this meeting doesn't produce at the very least a new proposal to take back to the players, then that's that.. the season's done.

Well at least we are able to take away that it's the owners to blame when it goes south on Tuesday.

LFSB: I caught the Marlies on TV twice(!) this weekend, pretty good hockey (and two wins(!!)) and it was Millsy and Bowen calling the game last night like a regular Tuesday Sportsnet Leaf game. I'll live if they fark the year... It'll free up time for the jr. tournament over the holidays too.

Under the current circumstances, I will second this post.

Can I ask why Jacobs is a problem?

There was this charming quote too at the victory party for the cup last year:

Fewer than 48 hours after the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 2011, we all received a reminder of the bad old days. Jeremy Jacobs stood on a stage outside the TD Garden and offered the backhandest complement most of us can remember. Speaking to current Bruins president Cam Neely, Jacobs turned and said the following:

"I also want to recognize Cam Neely. I think I have communicated more than once that all along he is such a great role model for the players and the organization. He is the heart and soul of what a Bruin means. You couldn't have been a better leader."

None of that is bad. Hell, one could even call it good. Fans were happy. Neely seemed pleased, and Jacobs almost even seemed sincere. Then, the the Mr. Jacobs we all know and love came out: "On top of it, he brought us a Stanley Cup, something he couldn't do while he was skating."

As a Canadian the NHL is now totally dead to me. Bunch of rich man-children who are too stupid to realize that they aren't just biting that hand that feeds (the fans) they are kicking it in the groin and spraying battery acid on it, saying, "It's ok baby, I won't do it again".

If any NHLer happens to read this, screw you! I'm done. I have WCHA, Hockey East and the rest of college hockey! Sorry they may not have pro careers, but I'm done with you, whether owners or players are at fault. Screw you both. If you haven't noticed, nobody really misses you. As bored as I was with the NBA, you brought it back, and now I'm into it again. Enjoy the European League or whatever the Fark they call it!

I wish I could be a fly on the wall in the player owner meeting. It will be an interesting dynamic. I hope someone calls out Jacobs for being such a jack-ass.

This Cheap Throat dribble is garbage.

Believe it or not, there's actually interesting stuff happening in hockey besides some desk jockey's exaggerations & tall tales.

They were amusing and interesting when the stories were still plausible, but they've long since jumped the shark.

This is why I will never be able to bring myself to watch European hockey. I get siesures with these crazy skating advertisements.
