Broktun: cousin-merle: Hebalo: Daryl and Merle set on each other in the Arena.
Walker attack on the town due to Rick's group breeching security.
Andrea saves Daryl and Merle.
They all escape.

Looked like there was smoke grenade in the arena in episode preview. Another raid by prison group to get Daryl?

I thought I saw Daryl with his crossbow in the "second half starting in February preview".

You did. Way to ruin a cliffhanger, AMC.

Jerseysteve22: I hope they don't go the suicide route, the show needs more red shirts for the eventual show down with the governor.

At first I thought the Gov and his gang of militia wannabes would totally overpower Rick and his posse since they were able to take out the National Guardsmen without any problems (they seem like descent shots). But after last night, it looks as though they got lucky. They were awful at hitting their targets (except for the token dude).

Following horror movie rules, Daryl won't die until he has sex with Carol.

Rincewind53: geom_00: What in the flying fark just happened?

Glenn made KNIVES. with ZOMBIE BONES. It's like an adventure game.

Go to zombie
Pull zombie arm
Use leg with zombie arm
Pull zombie hands,
Gain ZOMBIE BONE KNIVES.

First thing that came to my mind when Glenn made the bone knife and gave it to Maggie was "I have the weirdest boner right now."

/I need to step away from the memes

They had the element of surprise on their side against the National Guardsmen. They came in peace and then ambushed them. That likely won't happen with the Prison crew.

T-Dog - > Oscar -> Tyreese.

I'm guessing if you're a black male actor on this show you're watching to see if there's any casting calls for black male actors. It means your time on the show will end. It's got to be a meme now.

The Governor had the element of surprise w/the Guardsmen. He knew the name of their chopper pilot and, as far as the Guardsmen were concerned, had no reason to lie. He seemed to be alone, waving a white flag. The Guardsmen had just survived being overrun & were probably thankful at the prospect of finding someplace else to regroup than in the middle of the road.

Since that episode, the writers seem to be establishing that The Governor's forces are pretty damn lousy. Except for Merle and maybe a handful of others, nobody knows how to fight or shoot. And they lost even more of those people last night. Also, they don't seem to think the zombies are a big threat. They have the arena shows pretty regularly and see the humans triumphing (because they don't know the game is rigged). When that kid & Merle were the only ones left looking for Michonne, the kid wanted to rush right into the "Red Zone".

No, Rick's group didn't get lucky--The Governor's forces are untrained & soft. Look at what 8 months on the road did to Glenn. Friggin' zombie-arm bone knife? Who the hell would even think of that? And Maggie didn't hesitate to shank that girl. HOWEVER, the Governor has all that military hardware from said Guardsmen. THAT'S going to be the deciding factor.

Rick's group will be fight ing from a fortified position, so I'd call that a wash. My question will be will Rick know how to use the prison to his advantage, i.e. preselecting fallback positions and establishing a keep within the facility?

I wonder what Carl is going to do once that new teenage guy starts falling for Beth. I'm guessing there might be a friendly fire incident during a zombie attack.

And the prison was pretty stocked with weapons as well. A fortified position minus the element of surprise (Rick has to know that Woodbury will counter-attack), evens the score a bit. The real problem is that I don't think even with Tyreese's group that they have enough people to cover the perimeter of the entire prison.

Yeah, but having a familiarity of the prison allows Rick dictate the nature of the battle, fighting on the move, drawing the Governors people into bottlenecks and other types of kill zones.

True, but if the governor uses one of the National Guard trucks to breech the perimeter...it will make it very difficult for the Prison crew...they'll have to fight Woodbury AND the zombies.

No room in the car. They also needed bodies back at the prison to hold it.

They probably killed Two-Dogg because someone from Rick's group would have to die in that assault to make it more believable. He had the least amount of back story. Face it. We're all most comfortable with him dying if someone had to.

Exactly. And they've really only been in the prison a couple of days. They don't know the layout and most of it is still full of roamers. Oh, and the entire missing back wall that Tyreese & his group just traipsed on in through. Yes, they have food to hold out but they don't have ammo & weapons--the armory is overrun and hasn't been cleared out. Last episode, it took just one guy to open a gate or two and we lost 2 main characters. What do you think's going to happen when The Governor rolls over the gate w/an M35 Cargo truck & a humvee w/a .50 cal? Against a group w/limited ammo, an old guy w/one leg, an infant, and some 17-yo do-nothing? They don't even have their best shots, Darryl & Andrea.

Nope, consider the prison lost by the end of the season, if not sooner.

I have a love/hate relationship with where the writers are going with Michonne's character. The writing in the comic was a lot more direct. I agree that the television version of the character is devoid of *that* motivation, but I agree that to be hunted down like an animal would drive someone to try and kill her captors, and the person who sent her captors.

I really want the writers to move away from the silent/brooding archetype and flesh out who she is and why she's that way. They do a little bit of that in the comic, and it made so much sense. She needs more than just the basic survival/ revenge motivations, and maybe we'll see more of that now that she's going to have Tyrese to talk to.
Aside from that, I love the show, the comic, and the game, but I am pretty disgusted with the death of Oscar. That is ridiculous. I really hope the writers do some serious mea culpa coming up in the future, Because right now the show is looking racist. Racist.Racist.

brigid_fitch: Nope, consider the prison lost by the end of the season, if not sooner.

But here's the thing that gives me hope for the prison crew long-term. They might lose the prison, but they've been lasting outside a lot longer than the Woodbury folks. Almost all of Rick's crew knows how to fight and fight well. It seems to me that only the Governor's henchmen know how to fight. Unfortunately, they've lose one of their aces (Daryl) so they'll have to get him back to have a chance.

Well, with the introduction of newer potential rape targets for him there could be other possibilities. That and he found out Carol isn't a dyke which could be bad for her. Daryl was pretty flatly against her advances so she might just start macking on the creeper.

2012-12-03 01:00:43 PM

WienerButt: Interesting twist here if you think about it. Prior to this episode, we all wanted Merle turned into walker bait. But now, he is in a scenario where he is being ousted by his own people on very bad terms. Perhaps Andrea helps the brothers escape and somehow Merle realizes where his loyalties should be (he is, after all, sober)

Or...they fight to the death and Merle dies.

Well, we know from the previews at the end that that doesn't happen. Somehow they escape, Daryl brings Merle back to the group, and Glenn freaks the f*ck out. That's what I thought I saw, anyway.

I don't think that's necessarily true. I think Daryl has a thing for Carol...and vice versa. If they survive long enough, we may see it.

Which is in stark contrast to how Rick's group treated Hershel, and how Rick's group treated Tomas.

I'm a little disappointed that Carol didn't answer his questions about why she kept her hair short by simply saying that it makes it harder for zombies to grab her by the hair. Realistically everyone on the show should be keeping their hair pretty short cropped just for safety.

That's a strange reaction. It's showing contrasting behaviour, for the purpose of showing the effects of the environment on the characters. Do you not get that by showing similar situations with different reactions etc, we get a better sense of the characters and their motivations?

Yeah, that was the lone -- huge -- stain on an otherwise good episode. I could almost understand it but for the established Revolving Door of Black People on the show, and the fact they waved it right in the viewer's face by introducing Tyreese as Tyreese in the very next goddamn scene. It was almost an intentional, proud, acknowledgement of the "one black dude" rule.

Seriously, if Tyreese dies when Morgan is reintroduced, I'm done with the show, no matter how much I like it. Eff that in the Bee.

Not to mention that with the case of Hershel's farm, the group generally abided by Hershel's rules while trying to convince him of their usefulness and need for safety, and the humanity of welcoming other survivors who prove themselves decent people. Shane blew that situation sky-high, well after he'd already demonstrated himself unstable and a liability to both Hershel's and Rick's people.

In the case of Tomas, it's understandable. They were convicts and generally in prison for a reason, Tomas already tried to screw them once (by lying about the amount of food the convicts had), was combative from the beginning, then straight-up made an attempt on Rick's life. That was all after Rick attempted diplomacy, fair negotiation and trade -- remember, Rick made the point to the convicts first and foremost that there was plenty of room and supplies for both groups to share, and mutual interest in working together even if they don't fully assimilate. Rick tried to play by the same rules he did with Hershel, them Tomas screwed him over.

Yeah, it's a contrast to show the development of Rick's character, and those of his group. However, each circumstance was mediated by external factors that made different reactions to each a necessity.

And if you're a 12 year-old in a world gone to crap, you're going to adapt.

This is like the world gone back to medieval times where kids were taught to hunt, fight, etc. This isn't a world where helicopter parents take their kids to soccer practice in the mini-van and the only thing they have to worry about is getting kicked in the nuts. A 12 year-old would HAVE to learn to protect himself and others if they're going to survive.

Nah. He threw Merle under the bus because he didn't kill Michone and lied to him about doing it. As a result he now has a hole where his eye used to be. He can't justify killing Merle to the town by saying he is pissed that he didn't kill an innocent woman and lied to him about it. So instead he says Merle led the terrorist to the camp, and he has the approval of the town to kill him.
