Talking to Dr. friend, apparently it wouldn't actually hurt to get stabbed in the eye, as long as the glass didn't hit the optic nerve

how deep would the stab have to be to reach the nerve?

Umm... yes it would. Try touching your eyeball. Corneal reflex kicks in.

Yeah, I've poked myself in the eye before - it hurt like hell.

I imagine it would have hurt even more if I'd poked deeper into my eyeball with a shard of jagged broken glass.

I had the same response. I'm with you though - I'm glad that it was just Tyrese's group.

I think it's about time for "Yo! Is that racist?" to tackle the Walking Dead. At first it was funny, but Three Dog better stick around longer.

2012-12-03 01:50:06 AM
Whoever was doing all that screaming in the new group isn't going to last long. I hope.

Screamers are just dinner-bells in the zombie apocalypse.

2012-12-03 01:52:19 AM
Where's Carl?

He's single handedly ending the zombie apocalypse while the rest of you yammer about. If he had Richard Harrow from Boardwalk Empire on his side, they'd kill every zombie, everywhere, in a fortnight.

I didn't get to see it tonight. So the rumors all week were true?

//guess gotta see tonight's episode for myself

Kentucky Fried Children: I didn't get to comment during the show, so a few thoughts:

1) NOOOOO not Oscar... appears the one-black-man rule is in full effect. And Rick is still a bit insane...
2) Carl has become the shows hardass!
3) Andrea is f'ing stupid to be sticking with one-eyed Willy.
4) If Merle and Daryl can somehow escape Thunderdome, WHITE-TRASH ROAD WARRIORS!!!!

damn ::( So There Can Be Only One...The Racial Quickening of The Walking Dead was right?

At least Glen didn't die and get turned into a zombie, like the other rumors, right?

/why is this show afraid of Black Men?
//.. and Black Women, while they're at it? (imagine how much more badass Michonne would be if they actually gave her dialogue instead of an inability to express herself verbally to the white folks)

2012-12-03 02:34:23 AM

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: Just watched the rerun. Anyone mention that when the Governor and Michonne next meet it will be...

Pirate vs Ninja?

I read that showdown in On The Oceans of Eternity. It was lame. William Walker and his tame doctor Alice Hong got poisoned before it could really occur, while Marion Alston got sidelined by the bland as fark Holland siblings.

The way she tore out his eye in the first place was dope, though.

2012-12-03 02:39:11 AM

The Banana Thug: When I heard that scream in the prison, I really thought it was going to be THAT scene with one of the prisoners. I'm glad that it was just a creative way for Carl to discover the other group and pull off that awesome "come with me if you want to live" badassery.

Love Carl this season. The way he held that flashlight underneath the gun was military-grade awesome.

Bah, my earlier response was to this.

2012-12-03 02:48:00 AM

pivazena: Andrea has two shirts with 5 on them?

She's wearing a tank top with a 5 on it, which you can see through the striped shirt she wears over the tank.

2012-12-03 02:48:53 AM
Just finished. Thoughts:

Smoke AND a flashbang? Nothing like blinding your enemies and yourself at the same time.

Axel: stop being so creepy, yo. Though now I wonder if "In the guard tower" is a euphemism for "banging" (see Glenn & Maggie).

Bone shiv. Awesome.

Carl - Badass.

And I agree that Daryl got captured on purpose. Hope he's got a plan, cuz things do NOT look good.

Interesting theory from The Onion TV Club review:

Possibly Loony Theory: Maybe the Governor didn't turn on Merle; maybe this is part of the scheme they were talking about earlier in the hour, when the Governor wanted to use Daryl as a mole against the other prison people. If the Governor can find a way to first make it look like he wants Merle dead, and then find a way to let Merle escape... who knows?

ExperianScaresCthulhu: //.. and Black Women, while they're at it? (imagine how much more badass Michonne would be if they actually gave her dialogue instead of an inability to express herself verbally to the white folks)

Looks like the new Black Woman doesn't have that problem.

Yeah, I missed the part where Daryl gets separated. wonder how he gets away, hopefully Andrea comes to her senses at just the right moment.

so glenn, one-legged old man, and maggie won't let the odious merle enter the prison 'cause torture so he and his younger brother leave to forge a brave new spinoff?

merle and darrell love zombies?

what do you say, amc? two hillbillies traveling across a desolate, terrifying america on choppers sticking their nose where it don't belong? perhaps with a pet chimp they rescue? named clyde?

come on, man! that's a ratings winner right there!

She doesn't have that problem, so now it will be "OMG angry black woman stereotype", right?

As to if/when she gets killed off, I wonder if they're going to do the Julie/Chris scene from the comic, but with her and Ben instead? Despite being called Sasha, it seems like they've put her in as Tyreese's daughter (Julie in the comic), and we don't yet know what her relationship to Ben is (if any). I don't expect anyone from Tyreese's group to survive the season, except maybe Tyreese himself. It's interesting that "Made to Suffer" was the name of the comic in which he died AND the TV episode in which he was introduced.

/maybe Sasha is there to be killed by Axel in the perv storyline, though my first thought on who that would be was Beth.
//if that storyline even happens, they may not go there, instead just keeping Axel as creepy perv guy.

My "well-in-advance" predictions for the group members left at the end of the season... Rick, Carl, Andrea, Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, Michonne, Tyreese, MAYBE Beth, and a very remote possibility of Allen.

2012-12-03 05:45:18 AM

Jgok: MAYBE Beth

My guess is beth is going to die and carl is gonna go on a rampage of his own. be it this season or another one, but it's gonna happen.

Michonne gives me a stiffy

2012-12-03 07:17:02 AM

The Banana Thug: therecksays: I'm loving this season but I have a minor nit to pick. In the comic The Govenor is really not nice to Michone so when she is not nice back it makes total sense. In the show yes he sends Merle to kill her but I don't know she kind of takes that far too personal like. Seems more likely she should be pissed at Merle. I mean unless she was pissed about him stealing Andrea but that didn't seem likely.

I have that exact same gripe too. What was Michonne's reason for going back to meet the Governor? In the comic, there was a good reason, but in the show there was none. Obviously, someone had to kill his zombie daughter as a catalyst to go after the prison, but it felt so shoehorned.

I thought it was because she wanted revenge for the Gov. sending Merle to kill her, and perhaps the chance to rescue Andrea. The whole rescue thing turned out poorly, what with the Mexican standoff and everything.

2012-12-03 07:43:56 AM
A couple of observations:

Are the writers playing the long con with the archer girl from the wall? Will we see her again, or was she, as I suspect, just a one-off so the writers could show how unprepared Woodbury is for any type of attack?

The Governor now has carte blanche to be just as nasty and bat-shiat as he was in the comic now. Finally, some motivation! Also, the conversation he had with Merle about the prison...how can we believe that, if he had zero faith in Merle?

So, who wants to recant regarding the bowman from the wall in Woodbury being Tyrese?

My predictions for February:

Darryl is forced to kill Merle to escape, or wound him badly. "You ain't got what it takes to kill me, little brother." *Snap crackle pop*
Tyrese and his gang become invaluable to Rick's group, possibly by flushing out a killer.
Andrea has serious misgivings about the Governor and his depth perception.
Glen and Maggie become zombie-killing demi-gods.

2012-12-03 07:46:02 AM
I can't believe Andrea bought the gov's weak ass explanation for his wall of heads (to prepare himself for the horrors of outside".

Seriously? Walk the fark outside and stand on the wall.
At least Michonne saw the helicopter pilot and well and truly knows the full score on the gov.

Dude, they already are. In comparison to all the lightweights in woodbury who rely entirely upon firearms (well, except for their token bowman) Ricks group prefers to kill up-close and personal. They are even better shots with the guns than the Woodbury folks too.

2012-12-03 07:55:34 AM
Damn was this episode awesome. I hate having to wait 2 months!

Thoughts.

Rick - back to leading the group...and he's gonna want Daryl back.

Maggie and Glenn - Glenn has grown from walker-bait until a total zombie-killing badass. I guess pussy makes you stronger. Maggie isn't a timid woman...she's a badass in her own right.

Carl - We're seeing more of the comic-Carl. He can take care of himself and others now. I love how he handed Tyrese's group. "Aren't you going to help them?" Carl: "I did"

Andrea - Seriously has her head up her ass.

Michonne - She doesn't say much...but when you wield a katana the way she does, it speaks volumes.

Daryl - He's clearly conflicted. I'm going to echo the comments of others...he got caught on purpose.

The Governor - Clearly insane. Sad that he daughter became a zombie...but it explains a lot about his character and all the experiments they were trying.

2012-12-03 08:29:16 AM
Was kinda thinking Merle would be Martinez. Instead of location, he'd report group size/strength, weapons, etc. Probably with some sort of "Get your brother in line" caveat from the Gov.
Andrea needs to die...badly
Michonne needs to speak...BADLY!!
Andrea: What have you done?
Michonne: Dude has a wall o' heads and a baby zombie on a leash! W! T! F!?

It wasn't faith at the time, it was realizing Merle had lied to him about killing Michonne.

2012-12-03 09:19:24 AM
I haven't read the comics so I don't know if they're holding to the original character arcs, but for at least the last 3 episodes it seems like Earl is tiring of being the Governor's biatch. that could get interesting, although I don't see him and Daryl both getting out of Thunderdome alive, and we already know Daryl does.

2012-12-03 09:20:01 AM
Merle, not Earl. Sorry.

Other than Michonne knowing that the Guv sent Merle and his team to kill her? Yeah, I guess that's pretty trivial.

Jgok: As to if/when she gets killed off, I wonder if they're going to do the Julie/Chris scene from the comic, but with her and Ben instead?

I don't think we'll see that scene replicated. The whole purpose of that scene in the comics was to establish that anyone who dies reanimates, not just those who were bitten, which the show has already covered with Shane's death. That scene just isn't going to have any impact at all if they do it at this point.

If only Michonne possessed the ability to use her words to communicate that. Something like, "Hey, Andrea, I just wanted you to know that I saw proof that the Gov's guys massacred the Guard troops. He also sent Merle to kill me after they supposedly let me go. And he's got two people from your former group locked up. He was also keeping his zombie daughter locked in a cage in his office, and he tried to kill me when I offed her."

ExperianScaresCthulhu: I didn't get to see it tonight. So the rumors all week were true?

Yes, and it was worse than expected. They literally introduced Tyreese by name, and as a character who's purpose isn't merely to die, the scene after New T-Dog got shot. It was kind of like,

*BLAM*
"Oh, uh, last black dude died so I guess it's my turn. We got like thirty of us waiting in line. Hi, uh, I'm Tyreese. Let's just get this out of the way now, the next guy in line is Morgan, and given the way this shiat is going he'll kill me as his introduction to the show."

Seems like the only one saving someone's @ss is Michonne saving Andrea's. She saved her at the end of season 2. And at the beginning of season 3, Andrea seemed too sick to do anything but slow Michonne down.

The next episode is titled The Suicide King. Anyone want some Kool Aid?

2012-12-03 11:08:00 AM
Based on the previews right after the episode, it looked like there were smoke grenades going off in the arena, so I think Rick and Michonne go back for Daryl and bring Meryl along. Too bad they spoiled the cliff hanger.

I hope they don't go the suicide route, the show needs more red shirts for the eventual show down with the governor.
