(Sportige)   So here's the real question: how can the third-best team in the country give up 350 yards of rushing? And as a bonus question, even given 37 days to prepare, will Notre Dame do any better?   (sportige.com) divider line 81

steamingpile: Maybe Kelly can make an adjustment and you know actually stack the line and stop the run.

Yeah, it doesn't seem that difficult scheme-wise. Make McCarron beat you with his arm. Of course, execution-wise, it's a different story.

I have no dog in the fight. I just hope it's a good game.

How did David Pollack ever get on TV?

I guess I could say that about 75% of the people on ESPN.

God, NIU got shredded by ESPN, then had the balls to have Jordan Lynch on the phone and say "HEY BUDDY WE JUST SPENT 30 MINUTES SAYING YOU SUCK AND DON'T DESERVE A BCS BOWL BID"

At my age, I would have had no problem getting on the line and telling them to shove their network up their ass.

This is the first time bama has played anyone in SEC game besides florida. Those two have met in atlanta 7 times. This, therefore, is the first time for bama to meet Ga in SEC game and first time bama beat anyone besides Fl in SEC Game. This is the first time since 1992 bama won the SEC game wearing white "away" uniforms. Its the first time in the Ga dome bama has won an SEC game in their whites. 1992 was in birmingham.

January will be only the 7th time Bama and Notre Dame have met. Dame is up 6 to 1 in those games

kevinatilusa: Sure, Georgia gave up 32 points to Alabama. But they also gave up 44 to Tennessee, 23 to Buffalo, and 20 apiece to Missouri and Florida Atlantic.

I'm not entirely convinced that Alabama's impressive offensive numbers weren't as much due to Georgia's defense as they were to Alabama's offense.

Not to mention 300+ yards rushing the previous two games (against Georgia Tech and Georgia Southern).

GT and Georgia Southern both use triple option offenses. They really aren't all that useful as comparisons.

Remember when ESPN sportscasters spent a whole hour going on about USC having the best team in the history of college football only to see them lose in the rose bowl to Texas two days later?

There's a reason games actually get played. Notre Dame looks weaker on paper, but any given sunday, yadda-yadda, etc. I have to give it to those sportscasters at ESPN though, they do get paid to masturbate on TV, sometimes live.

Wow, I just saw Herbstreit's rant about NIU. What a douche. Dear Kirk, the reason NIU is in the Orange Bowl is because the Big East and the B1G sucked balls this year. You want to biatch at somebody, biatch at Louisville, Ohio State, and Penn State. They could have prevented this.

Well, no one that plays for Ohio State realistically could've prevented it. The guys a few years ago who got them the bowl ban could've.

And if you're going to biatch at Louisville, you've gotta at least biatch at Rutgers, too.

Though given that it's Oklahoma being excluded, makes me not really care all that much.

On a different note, I found it funny how the voters kept on trying to make Boise State happen despite a loss to Michigan St., another at home to San Diego St., and a 7-6 squeaker at home against BYU being their only good win all season.

The voters somehow thought that was worth #15 in the polls (which would have been an auto-berth in a BCS game), but the computers stepped in with a reality check and didn't even rank them.

Not to mention those were both blowout games and UGA had 3rd string in by the 4th on defense.

Well Louisville is in the sugar bowl I thought, I will laugh my ass off if they beat florida because...........fark florida........

I get that but ND looks terrible, they have a weak line, no passing game, and one decent to good player on defense with the rest being average, they could win and if they did I would be ecstatic but the reality is that I foresee a beat down of horrendous proportions.....

Oh and fark the cotton bowl, did they pussy out and decide not to take texas? Were they forced to take OU? I know a&m wanted them since they would love to beat the fark out of that texas team in a bowl game.

Oh and how farking funny is it that the bowl match up has a sense of humor, after nebraska just got ran all over them in their last game they get a bowl game with two of the best RBs coming up in the SEC.........

Oklahoma: 8-1 in the Big 12.
Texas: 5-4 in the Big 12.
Head to head: Oklahoma beat Texas 63-21.

The Oklahoma-Texas A&M matchup is more mouth-watering than half of the BCS games. A Texas-Texas A&M matchup would have been a blowout that only A&M fans would have cared about.

The NIU hate is moronic. They've done more to earn a BCS bid than each of the last three Big East champions have.

Aar1012: KiwDaWabbit: There's a rumor flying around that Northern Illinois is going to the Orange Bowl?

Can any FARK sources confirm?

That was suppose to be Ohio University breaking the BCS....damnit Solich!

Dammit 13 season ending surgeries during the season is what you meant to say.

ND seems to have had a golden child year...here's hoping they wipe the floor with Alabama.

Let's put this to bed right here, right now. Georgia's defense sucks. It has always sucked. As long as Richt is there, it will always suck.

Comparing ND's defense to theirs is offensive to just about every other team the Irish played.

Well Louisville is in the sugar bowl I thought,

They are, but they wound up ranked 21st. And I think Nebraska can take some of the blame, since they were 12th prior to the game. A non-AQ champ has to rank 16th or higher *and* be ranked above at least one AQ champ. Louisville won the Big Least, and Wisconsin (B1G champs) weren't ranked at all.

2012-12-03 09:23:39 AM

steamingpile: they have a weak line

You mean the defensive line that allowed less than 300 yards and 10 point squat points a game? Or the offensive line that paved the way for more than 200 rushing yards a game?

steamingpile: no passing game

No, just the highest-receiving tight end in school history.

steamingpile: and one decent to good player on defense with the rest being average,

You're a moran. You can get a best-in-the-nation performance from one offensive star and a cast of average supporting characters, but that dog don't hunt on the other side of the ball.

2012-12-03 09:43:15 AM
Oh, and:

SEC - #2
Big XII - #5
PAC-12 - #6
ACC - #12

Heck, even WAC champs Utah State nearly outranked Louisville (they came in at #22), so they, along with Mountain West champs Boise State (who came in at #19) met half of the criteria for an auto-bid.

There's a total of ten BCS slots: NCG gets two. #3 and #4 get auto-bids regardless. SEC, Big XII, B1G, PAC-12, ACC, and Big East champs get auto-bids. That's 9 auto-bids. Imagine the chaos if Boise State had ranked just 3 spots higher and/or Utah State had gotten 8 spots higher. They would've both qualified for auto-bids, so 12 auto-bids for 10 slots.

/Ah, so *that's* the new math they told me about growing up.

Don't forget, BCS busters don't only affect AQ teams like OU.

LA Tech screws themselves out of a bowl at 9-3.

Only the highest-ranked non-AQ team that fulfills the conditions gets an auto-bid.

2012-12-03 10:28:38 AM

whistleridge: It's a good thing tOSU has a long and glorious record of getting crushed by SEC teams in bowl games. Otherwise, when Alabama annihilates ND, the 'tOSU ARE TEH REAL CHAMPEENS' crowd might actually get some supporters. Now, though...meh.

OSU gets crushed by UF consistently, I'll grant you. But didn't they beat Ark the last time they played an SEC team in a bowl game? Or was that the 2nd to last time?

2012-12-03 10:29:58 AM

Chunks McGunks: fark you subby. Georgia lost by 5 farking yards. That's the difference between an SEC championship and a national championship win and not even making a BCS game.

Come on Notre Dame. Beat the Tide!

Didn't UGA give up 300+ yards rushing to Georgia Southern as well? (I believe 300+ yards rushing in 3 straight games, actually)

True. I overlooked that bit. There'd still be some moaning from the non-AQ's, though. While we're on outlandish scenarios, how about this:

#1: Notre Dame
#2: Navy
#3: Army
#4: BYU
One non-AQ champ ranked higher than an AQ champ.

While wildly unlikely in reality, that would cause some interesting screaming, as that leaves 5 slots for 6 AQ champs. Like I said, we'll never see it, but weird stuff like that runs through my mind, ya know? :)

That would leave 4 slots for the 6 AQ champs. While nearly impossible in reality, imagine that one. :)

Oh I would have watched it and I think quite a few people would have liked to see the old Texas/A&M rivalry game played since Texas says the refuse to play them anymore, but I would have loved to see the beat down A&M would have put on them but OU is just as good since they beat down Texas.

FriarReb98: Let's put this to bed right here, right now. Georgia's defense sucks. It has always sucked. As long as Richt is there, it will always suck.

Georgias defense is a lot better, the problem in previous years was willie martinez who was a large proponent of the strip the ball kind of tackling that is useless, grantham tells players to drive through the opponent which is how you should tackle. The biggest way you can tell the defense has gotten better is that teams are putting out feelers about wanting to hire him as a coach, in the entire time willie was at UGA nobody ever asked about his availability, hes on with stoops because they were friends years ago. I think its up in the top 30 now where a few years ago with willie it was down in the 80s or so, its better than it has been.....

Zagloba: You mean the defensive line that allowed less than 300 yards and 10 point squat points a game? Or the offensive line that paved the way for more than 200 rushing yards a game?

That was good enough for 27th, 4 spots ahead of UGA so I am sure that 4 spots means ND will run all over bama, right?!?!

Zagloba: No, just the highest-receiving tight end in school history.

Yes, that really matters, their QB barely cracked the top 80 in passing yards for the country at number 79. I repeat, they have no passing game which will allow their safeties to cheat up and shut down any run game..

Zagloba: You're a moran. You can get a best-in-the-nation performance from one offensive star and a cast of average supporting characters, but that dog don't hunt on the other side of the ball.

Yes it will, but the problem is that you can neutralize that player, just ask jarvis jones on south carolina they did a good job of taking him out of plays and it won them the game.

Fact remains, most likely bama will crush ND but I will pray to God, Buddha, Allah, Ganesh, Vishnu, and even offer up some vodoo sacrifices that bama losses, then I will throw in a few prayers that Louisville crushes florida.......because fark florida.........
