I am... okay with this.  Good steady riff, nice vocals and a great sense of humor.

Something tells me these guys have a LOT of fun doing shows.

My conclusion: Not metal.

Not a hater, just my opinion man.

You can't kill the metal. The metal will live on.

No one can destroy the metal. The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow.

HighZoolander: and thank you to Winterlight for the totalfark!

You're welcome. Hope you have a Merry Metal Christmas.

/ it's the least I could do as a thank you for all the new music you've turned me on to this year

That video is good, but I still think that 'Wires' is their best video.

Link

And, yes, they look like a lot of fun.

Red Fang is boring stoner rock. Not metal.

Saturnus released their first album in six years last week. Best doom album of the year, and current frontrunner for my album of the year, if that means anything.

Other 2012 releases I've been listening to this week:

Aluk Todolo - Occult Rock
Desolate Shrine - The Sanctum of Human Darkness [Finndess]
Svartidauði - Flesh Cathedral
Necrovation - S/T [Swedess]
Frostseele - PRÆKOSMIUM

Agreed. It doesn't have to be "rape your mother and eat her entrails" music to be metal.

/liked that a lot
//currently digging "The Sword"

Geez, subby, with a headline like that I was expecting either Manowar or Tenacious D.

/Still, I liked it

when did it become acceptable for guys in bands not to be cool. These are hipsters in disguise as a punk/metal band.

2012-12-02 03:46:19 PM
Danigt, hit the wrong button...meant to add that they sound like Queens of the Stone Age to me.

2012-12-02 04:02:38 PM
the song is somewhat ok but pretty crappy by historical Relapse Records standards. the dudes are basically just like my friends and i, which is cool.

the video is pretty awesome. the narrative depicts the soul battle of the Hessian who attempts and fails to exorcise his own inner LARPer demons, thus ending him in a chaos of death aesthetics. in this context, we see how the nihilism inherent in heavy metal arises and can begin to explicate and understand it's relationship to the broader cultural milieu.

Psycoholic_Slag: Even more metal:

Burzum

Good, yes -- but I always feel guilty listening to him.

2012-12-02 04:24:34 PM
I enjoyed the guitars and the humor but wouldn't really listen to it over and over. It's more like heavy garage rock

Burzum

Good, yes -- but I always feel guilty listening to him.

I like Varg's music, particularly his post-prison albums. i think Burzum has enough depth to resonate outside of sketchy politics and philosophy, and without having to feel guilty.

Biker bar music. Meh.

I love Red Fang. One of the few bands I go out of my way to buy albums the day they come out. Give Reverse Thunder a try.

2012-12-02 05:40:49 PM
Not metal.

That beardo stoner groove rock stuff is all over the place here in the PNW. I'm glad that it rocks, but metal it aint.

Currently Possessed by Beer. thnksz to winthrlight for the totlfrak.

2012-12-02 05:54:26 PM
you know your metal band has made it when everyone decries you're no longer metal.

2012-12-02 05:58:53 PM
It sort of reminded me of Clutch. Not spot on but I see a similarity. I liked it a lot. Great video too.

I'm sure someone in some prior thread mentioned Turisas before but I'm a big fan of theirs.

Also Korpiklaani, Fintroll and Ensiferum.

You might be right - I'm pretty sure I saw a Telecaster in the mix there - are you allowed to play metal on a Telecaster?

/Could be worse
//Could be playing metal on a Danelectro

Psycoholic_Slag: The Offspring

The Offspring don't even sound like the Offspring anymore.

2012-12-02 07:39:10 PM
Been a long time since I liked a SHMHC submission.

This ... this I liked. Vocals were indeed a little too offspring, but good riffs, good fun, good hooks, good energy. I can dig it.

Man On A Mission: Something tells me these guys have a LOT of fun doing shows.

I saw them play with Black Tusk. Black Tusk has A LOT more fun than Red Fang.

Does every band on Relapse Records have to sound like Neurosis now?

I think the Tele was retrofitted with humbuckers so it was sort of met-al.

The joke is that they suck? They're pretty good at it.

/listen to Satan's Satyrs.

That was really good, thanks Subby.

......that being said, I am afraid their albums might veer into the stoner-rock wank like the middle of the otherwise brilliant Them Crooked Vultures album. Please say it ain't so.

I hear a big Black Sabbath influence in there... so if they sound like the inventors of metal... they prolly are metal. And thank the stygian gods, a band that realizes that clearing your throat for 4 minutes doesn't sound badass, it sounds farking stupid. These guys are way better than most so called current metal.

2012-12-02 09:36:07 PM
The band that I've discovered most recently that I am in love with is Gojira. That and Baroness. Yeah I'm always a bit behind...
