The look on the Nebraska coach's face made me wish that I recorded the game.

I see the cornboys are still getting pounded in their championship games......

if nebraska's football team was playing tennessee or georgetown's basketball teams, it might have been a game.

Holy crap. I noticed the score was 21-10 in the 1st, and I expect WI to win, but...damn. Not by THAT much.

My favorite stat: Wisconsin threw the ball 10 times, with 8 completions for a grand total of 101 yards. WOW.

So the team with the 6th best record in the Big 10 is going to the Rose Bowl? Sounds legit.

Well, that's what Wisconsin gets for not selling memorabilia to a tattoo shop or raping kids for a decade and covering it up to protect the football program.

This is why conferences shouldn't be broken into divisions. The top two teams in the conference should play for the title.

My headline was more focused on the sidelines: "Wisconsin wins not only the B1G championship, but also the battle of the goofy-looking head coaches"

It'll be interesting to see just what the Big 10 will be in about 10 years. On the football field, it sure looks like the conference as a whole is declining, yet between their massive alumni network, the actual Big Ten Network, etc...the conference can print money like no other. Off the top of my head, I can't think of another example of relatively mediocre athletic competition that still is valued well over the gross GDP of small countries.

In other words, they kinda suck, but they're rich, and because of that, I don't think they care that they kinda suck.

Or, one could say that the better team went, instead of just assuming a national rank number to the left of a team's name assumes position in greatness. A...playoff, if you will.

Or make it a 3 game championship. Game 1: Leaders #1 vs Legends #2, Game 2: Leaders #2 vs Legends #1, Title Game: G1 winner vs G2 winner.

It is so cute how WI fans somehow think that was a huge win. As if Nebraska belonged @ #12. Please. I'm pretty sure NO Big Ten team should be in the top 25 with the exception of the unbeaten that is not eligible.

There are tweeting how sweet it was to be big ten champs three years in a row and how that win should vault them into the Top 25.

They know they lost five games right? They know they finished THIRD in their own division, a full two games behind the 2nd place team? They went 4-4 in conference (w/o last night's game).

Yes WI fans...I'm sure it will feel awesome getting beat in the Rose Bowl three years in a row.

I can see where this is going: a round robin home and away total points series tournament

aww, is someone a little burthurt? did your team get banned from the post-season for covering up for sandusky or selling merchandise for tattoos? those NCAA sanctions really are getting the sand all up in there.

bucky didn't control those situations but he did show up and beat the shiat out of the cornholes.

go bucky

IlGreven: And Wisconsin was the 3rd best team in their division. How bad would it have been if Urban Meyer got a second chance at them?

Oh, the Buckeyes would have easily hung 100 on my Bugeaters last night. Urban Meyer doesn't exactly let of the gas, even when he's already completed his victory lap.

And to be fair, if the Badgers play just as well against Stanford, they have a pretty decent shot at winning. They finally had a roster that was nearly injury free... I think their fans will lament what the season could have been once their victory high subsides. At least, that's what I tell myself to feel just a little better about such a humiliating performance.

/one of my buddies came into drill today and said to our supervisor about me "he's gonna be pretty depressed today. We shouldn't badger him too much."

That game reminded me of the time Kansas dropped 76 on Nebraska. IIRC, We punted on the first drive, then scored touchdowns on our final 11 straight possessions of the game. Good times!

/they also scored a lot of points
//and absolutely owned us all-time

Is this the pre-BCS show thread? If so, spoilers: Northern Illinois is #15, will play FLST in the Orange Bowl. Also, I'm gonna list out some of the most craven coaches' poll ballots during lulls in the NFL games...

2012-12-02 06:26:24 PM
James Franklin, coach of Vanderbilt.
* Voted Notre Dame #4, behind Alabama, Georgia, and Florida (in that order)
* Also had LSU #5, Texas A&M #7, South Carolina #8
* Vanderbilt #16, the highest anyone rated his team besides the coach of Middle Tennessee St
* Mississippi St #21, accounting for more than half of the "receiving votes" of the Bulldogs
* Northern Illinois #23, only three voters put them lower

RminusQ: Is this the pre-BCS show thread? If so, spoilers: Northern Illinois is #15, will play FLST in the Orange Bowl. Also, I'm gonna list out some of the most craven coaches' poll ballots during lulls in the NFL games...

From "sources":

The remaining BCS bowls are: Notre Dame (12-0) vs. SEC champion Alabama (12-1) in the Discover BCS National Championship, Florida (11-1) vs. Big East champion Louisville (10-2) in the Sugar Bowl, Big 12 champion Kansas State (11-1) vs. Oregon (11-1) in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, and Pac-12 champion Stanford (11-2) vs. Big Ten champion Wisconsin (8-5) in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio.

Sports Illustrated reported earlier that NIU earned a BCS bowl berth and is ranked No. 15 in the final BCS standings.

2012-12-02 06:41:45 PM
Bob Stoops, coach of Oklahoma. Oklahoma was going to the Sugar Bowl unless NIU got an auto-bid, and for that to happen, UCLA and Nebraska had to stay ahead of NIU in the BCS standings.
* Kansas State #3, tied for their highest ranking
* Oklahoma #6, tied for their highest ranking (with two other Big 12 coaches, Baylor and Iowa State)
* Nebraska #15, tied for their highest ranking
* UCLA #16, only the coach of Middle Tennessee St put them higher
* Northern Illinois #24, only one voter put them lower

Rocky Long, coach of San Diego State, apparently taking up the mantle of the mid-majors
* Northern Illinois #15, OK, that's reasonable.
* All three MWC co-champions ranked: Fresno State #16, San Diego State #20, Boise State #21. Huh?
* Kent State #18, San Jose State #19, Utah State #22, Tulsa #25
* Rutgers #23, Louisville unranked. Double huh?

Wisconsin was not a good team this year and hung with the Buckeyes (and dominated them statistically). Like Tosu's last National Championship team, this year's team found ways to win close games they shouldn't have. However, if they are the class of the B1G Ten, then the conference really is terrible. Probably five of their games could have went the other way.

I'm an idiot for not watching this game. I'm also an idiot for not realizing the difference in talent between the top couple of teams per division and the rest.

Let's hope Wisconsin can clean up at the Rose Bowl, finally.

And if not, at least it's better than the Morton years.

My "no one gives a crap" playoff bracket, based off of my own rankings which are a mix of AP, Coaches', computer rankings without margin, computer rankings with margin.

Florida State at Georgia, winner at Notre Dame
Louisville at Oregon, winner at Kansas State
Oregon State at Oklahoma, winner at Alabama
Wisconsin at Florida, winner at Stanford

Top two quarterfinal winners meet in the Sugar Bowl on New Years', bottom two meet in the Orange Bowl the day after. A week or so later, championship game at the Fiesta Bowl.

/big six conference winners get a guaranteed spot
//must win your conference to get a bye
///limit 3 teams per conference
////some minor re-arrangement of "natural bracket" rules to avoid rematches

I'm trying to understand the hate on NIU while Louisville and Wisconsin get free passes.

It was thoughtful of them to lose all that mojo in their checked luggage before coming to Happy Valley last week. I didn't even see a B1G Championship win as a possibility for the Badgers, much less them running a combine harvester through the Cornhuskers' defense.

I'm an alum of Wisconsin (undergrad) and Oregon (grad school). After watching Oregon's up-tempo, option read, run and gun offense it's usually tough to watch Wisconsin run the ball up the middle for three hours. The games Wisconsin lost this season could all be attributed to an 8 in the box defense watching Wisconsin line up in the Power I over and over again. I don't know what got into Wisconsin's offensive coordinator for the B1G game, but it was easily the most creative offense the Badgers have shown all season. Hope they learn from it.

/yes, I enjoyed last year's Rose Bowl
