I've had two drunken experiences with cops in New Zealand (Hamilton if anyone is curious). The first time I was just far too pissed (18 and stupid) and yelling random stuff at people on the street. I started yelling at these two figures in front of me -- friendly stuff, nothing too bad -- and they ignored me but as they approached I noticed they were cops. They take a look at me, laugh, and tell my mates to drag my arse home.

Second time I was with some people that I had met that day, they had beer, I wanted beer. We were walking down Memorial St just about to cross over the bridge to Victoria st (over the Waikato) and a cop pulls us over. Doesn't check Ids (two of them were under 18 I find out later), doesn't scream, just says "finish those beers you've got open before you reach the other side, boys"

/I miss NZ.

So what you're saying is that today is a day for some New Zealanders to cut back a bit.

9 litres of beer. I wouldn't be worried about getting drunk. I'd be more worried about exploding.

Police spokesman Stephen Hill said eight police cars attended the party.

Yeah, those cruisers are real party animals, so I'm told.

9 litres?!? good god. That's about 304 us ounces, or a little more than 25 12 oz beers. After the 12th beer, I'd need to camp in a bathroom.

If I want to get that drunk, I just switch to the hard stuff.

How many TF'ers equals a liter?

9 liters? How was this arbitrary measurement decided?

And are we talking REAL beer or crap? I could drink 9 liters of Coors Light in a given day and yes I'd be quite drunk, but functional and conscious. 9 liters of Dogfish Head 60 minute IPA and even I would probably be in a coma.

It was probably Tui. 4% abv, and not too great, but has some pretty funny ads.

Full of gorgeous women soaking themselves, so if you're work place is very uptight, this may be NSFW. Link

It's a "crate of beer". A wooden crate filled with bottles.

We used to do case races in college. Of course those were pony bottles and it was 2 people for each case. Can't imagine one person drinking a full crate of beer.

Used to have crate days at Waikato Uni in the summer. Always just our back yard mind. Start 11 ish, BBQ started at 12, frisbee and backyard cricket, maybe a paddling pool for a bit of fun. Crates make a great seat and occasionally a serviceable set of stumps for the cricket. Good old one hand one bounce cricket.. dont even need to put your beer down.

The ability to drink nine liters of beer in one day is about as impressive as masturbating a dozen times a day.

A friend of mine in high school joked "24 beers in a case, 24 hours in a day. Coincidence, I think not!"

He's show up to school hammered and sleep it off during world history.

Meh, not that special. I've done Adje Kratje (ad fundum the crate) with 24 33cl bottles. Just make it an all day event and keep the greasy/comfort food coming.

/Winner got a crate of beer.

Failmitter, it was not the first Crate Day (the 3rd in fact) and there's nothing anywhere except the fail of an article that says the point is for each participant to finish a crate.

Here's what it's actually about (clicky pops)

Ah the voice of someone who has never been to a party in New Zealand. Kiwis don't really seem to have a point on the scale between "sober" and "unconscious in a pile of vomit". If you'd had one, you'll be having twenty.

I'm not sure why crate day is special because a lot of my mates would easily go through a crate of beer during a cricket match on a noice doi especially if there was a BBQ or hangi laid in.

When I was based at Wagga Wagga we would drink a carton of beer before heading off into town. Otherwise it would be too expensive to get drunk in the pubs.

Carton = 24 x 375ml
