Because those kind of robots were popular then?

Similar ones would show up on display at malls, they were obviously remote controlled but that was denied by the people who claimed they'd soon be available to be in our homes doing dishes and helping kids with homework....

Tweekie!

Because every woman in the Screen Actors Guild, every porn actress contacted, and even a container full of Soviet gulag escapees soon to be forced into sex slavery in Guatemalan uranium mines refused to do the originally scripted love scene with Burt Young?

The real question about those movies is 3,4 and 5 take place one directly after the other over a period of like a month, maybe 2. Yet the son is a baby in 3 and in high school in 5. Is he a half vampire like the kid in Twilight?

What most people forget is that Rocky was a thug. He worked as a thumb breaker. He hooked up with Adrian because she was the sister of his buddy Paulie. Paulie pretty much forced her to start dating Rocky because he liked her...

Because in the future we will all have talking robots as well as giant shoulder mounted VHS video cameras. Duh!

I think the point was that it was a completely useless, very expensive toy.... and it illustrated the excesses of new-rich athletes and their posses.

It was meant to be somewhat dumb in context.

The really stupid thing was him losing all his money and having to move back to the ghetto. I could see him being dumb enough to lose all his money but the most popular boxer in this fictional universe would have a million ways to make his fortune back. And this was even before reality TV.

/How 'bout I break your thumbs!

Subby is obviously a youngin... when this film originally came out, I really wanted to own an Omnibot 2000, but they were for rich folk... which was what this movie was portraying:
