There are a few movies that were better with the reboot.

A bolt of lightning should strike you dead if you remake "The Sound of Music".

2012-12-01 05:27:50 PM
I don't do musicals (except The Blues Brothers) so I don't know what The Sound of Music is about but I do know it's rather beloved and I doubt that an American Star Search contestant would have much to add to it. Doesn't she just hide in an attic the whole time anyway? Why would she be singing? Shut up and write your diary.

I have no idea what they think can be improved upon with that movie... I love The Sound of Music, but there isn't a chance in hell I'd watch a remake.

I want to find the people in Hollywood who have these lunch meetings (most likely involving nothing but high-proof liquids) and say things like, "You know what we need? A remake to the Sound of Music! As a TV special!"

"Yeah, that would be perfect!"

"I know! And we can get Carrie Underwood to star in it!"

"Brilliant! She has a great voice!"

"But can she act?"

(much laughter)

"Oh the new guy is so funny! We don't need 'actors' anymore. They just get in the way of the merchandising."

"Yeah, look at Transformers."

(wipes tear from eye) "Oh, now THAT was a perfect franchise!"

That's close but to truly emulate a movie studio suit you would have to carefully extract a lot more brain cells and do a lot more coke.

THIS! I didn't say a word when they were remaking Total Recall or rebooting superhero movies they they were farking windows 95, but this shiat can not stand!

Sound of music? Must you ruin everything we love, hollywood? Must you?

Wait... what?

Movie guy that thought this was a good idea.....

just no.

There are a handful of movies that got it right the first time. If you don't know what they are, ask someone old enough to have to shave every day, maybe your dad, maybe your mom. Ask someone that likes movies, old movies, new movies, black and white movies, Technicolor movies (you may have to ask what those are too...) but I digress....

JUST NO.

I was expecting Lindsay Lohan to play the title role since she seems to be cast for roles that are totally beyond her abilities.

As long as she's not inflicting another one of her "country" albums on the world, I'm OK with this.

There are many, many musicals and plays that I will never see. This is one of them.

Why not, they remade "The Wizard of Oz" using the muppets...with Queen Latifa as Auntie Em and Ashanti as Dorothy a few years ago....not "The Wiz" but the the Wizard of Freaking Oz!...no, I am not joking. While they are screwing around, recycling movies like this they will also probably redo "Mary Poppins" and "Gone with the Wind" and "Casablanca." The stage was set for this complete and utter lack of regard for prior art when they decided that John Wayne classics like "True Grit" were no longer sacred. And the whole while, the studios will continue to insist on higher ticket prices to make up the revenue short fall...hopefully this will simply bankrupt the whole damn industry. Personally, I'm about one horrible Hobbit movie away from swearing off theater movies made after 2000 altogether!

I would think that if you were going to remake or adapt a musical, your first task would be to find lead stars that are, at best, at least as talented and experienced as the original stars. I can't imagine a better Captain Von Trapp for example.

Except maybe they're making a new, grittier, darker Sound of Music. Captain Von Trapp was so devastated by his wife's death that he slit his vocal chords so that he could never again make the musical sounds that remind him of his wife. And Liesal (sp?) actually gets teen pregnant by Rolf and has to shoot him to save the family. Then there's the scene where the nuns who helped the family escape are raped and lined against the wall and shot.

Since the actual events took place 80+ years ago, I hope they update the story: A family of Bapists Mormons living in Pennsylvania escape Obama's jack-booted thugs by escaping into West Virginia.

But The Cohen brothers did an excellent job remaking True Grit. It was a more serious and realistic version with better acting.

Shhhhhhhhhhhh! You'll ruin all the complaining over something that's happened for 6 years BEFORE THE MOVIE came out back in the 60's Like the movie wasn't an adoption of the Broadway play they are going to show on TV.

Its adorable and I hope it never stops.

What's the "original Klingon" from?

/Star Trek, but there's a lot of Star Trek.

The quote is a bit from a movie where a Klingon suggested that one doesn't appreciate Shakespeare until they've read it in the original Klingon. Another bit is that the guy that played captain von trapp also played a Klingon in the original movies.

I don't think this is going to be a full-on remake... I think this supposed to be more like a "concert performance", like Reba McEntire and Alec Baldwin doing South Pacific a couple years ago. That said, I'm mainly curious to see what kind of voice she brings to the part... Julie Andrews was classically trained.

Also interested in the Sara Underwood angle... maybe cast her as Leisl, and Hugh Hefner as Uncle Max...

Probably as realistic as a country singer with an Oklahoma twang passing for an Austrian nun...
