No. At the top of our classification system for living organisms we have plants, animals, bacteria, fungi, protists, and archaea (which is something new since my schooling days do don't ask me what it is, I had to look it up).

Bacteria and animals are clearly separated for fairly obvious reasons.

buzzcut73: Listeria in veggie burgers along with the salmonella contaminated organic peanut butter a month or so back makes me wonder if all of this health food is really any better for me than plain old steak and potatoes.

Steaks processed at Lakeside Packers in Alberta was what gave a bunch of people E. coli recently. Wasn't even hamburger, the usual suspect. Steaks.

Animals are full of bacteria, and they play a large role in our immune system and gastrointestinal tract. Bacteria do more for us than, say, cows. We should eat the animals and spare the bacteria. Avoid eating plants, or killing them senselessly forest by forest, as they produce oxygen and prevent soil erosion.

I eat vegetarian often enough but I do still eat meat occasionally. It's pretty damn clear that we raise too many animals and that the feed used for them could feed many more people than their meat can.
