Which of these forty people should be Person of the Year?

Sorry. The correct answer is: "who gives a shiat?"

/editors get final say regardless

He is, for no apparent reason, also among the forty nominees...

In all seriousness, it should be Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi. He has the potential of changing things drastically in the Middle East.

I know 4chan was doing this a week or two ago, but 2.2m is too much to be them alone.

Deviously-effective political tactics, if you ask me. But no one is.

That was sort of my reaction too - online polls suck. I really don't see what Kim Jong Un has done that is so significant.

Psy would make more sense,

Obama would make more sense.

Morsi would make even more sense.

According to moot's statistics, we get ten times that many visitors a month. Reddit is too busy judging each other, worshipping celebrities for doing AMAs and circlejerking to notice, I guess.

Hitler was also named Times man of the year also mac headroom, and pacman.. and all thaqt was before the land of the interwebs.

the point of being named man or person of the year is not the feel good thing, but who was the most infuential, who dominated the headlines, or who shook things up the most.

Kim Jung uns assention to the throne.. as it were, is very notable, considering the wild card nature of north Korea in general. it is not over all surprising of a consideration in my opinion, as NK's claim to have THE bomb is tennuiois at the best, as well as it's ability to actually deliver it. but it's always had the intent to USE the bomb if it has it to get what they want.
Mr. Un represents the third generation of dictators to assume control of a .notably ass backward nation. We are all watching and seeing what this kid has in mind and how he is going to turn out. Hoping for the best, but expecting the worst...

hell, here in the US we resurrected a old cold war scare movie, Red Dawn, and replaced the Russians with the north Koreans, in part to not to piss of the Chinese, but more because the North Koreans make more sense. in a global perspective. for pulling stupid shiat like that.

2012-12-01 07:19:48 PM
This could be the deciding factor in my vote: Him, how are Kim Jung Un's Photoshop skills?

True, it's not about being a great person, but still what has Kim Jong Un done of any significance?

Cerebral Knievel: Kim Jung uns assention to the throne.. as it were, is very notable, considering the wild card nature of north Korea in general.

Kim Jong Un actually makes a lot more sense than most of the options on the list. He was a literal nobody until his dad suddenly died and he took over, and now he's pretty much become a household name as "that fat kid who took over North Korea." A bunch of his high school friends didn't know who he really was until this year.

He may not be the absolute best choice, but I'd rank him up there with Mohamed Morsi, Pussy Riot and the Mars Rover in terms of grabbing international headlines.

If it's not Malala Yousafzai, you should all be ashamed. 14 year old Pakistani girl, speaks out in favour of education for girls, despite threats of violence. Ignores threats of violence. Gets shot on a school bus. Led to widespread condemnation of the Taliban and has got the ball rolling on what women's rights should be there.

Seriously, give the kid Person of the Year. And the George Cross, the CGM, Legion d'honneur and a Nobel Peace Prize while you're at.
