It would be bonus points if your package marked for "Any US Soldier" was not only delivered, but delivered to a Marine.

2012-12-01 01:58:40 PM
That explains why none of the packages for my cousin, Any Ulysses Stephen Soldier never arrive!

-Use generic salutations such as "Dear Service Member." Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program
-Do not send or include letters.
-The program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.
-Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos: these items will be removed during the reviewing process

Jesus Christ, they have less stringent mail laws in prison. What's the point in even bothering?

My guess is a lot of those things would normally go through security checks done by actual security experts in the miltary.  You can see why any letters would need to be scanned.

However, this program is done entirely by Pitney Bowes and The Red Cross.  Therefore, not going through the normal security channels.

Maybe a real servicemember can give more insight.  I'm just assuming.

How does one rape "stuff"? "Stuff" has no feelings. So, it is not like they are raping people, right? Then they have the common courtesy to pillage what they have raped so the people do not have to use sperm-stuffed stuff--that seems rather nice of them. Amirite?

This just in from the other side of the globe---a "stuff rape" update--you are a farktard.

But where does it end? When they have no more Stuff to rape, who'd next? C.H.U.D.s? Breeders? Killer Tomatoes? We have to draw the line here, or more fictional movie monsters will suffer at the hand of our troops.

I guess they check everything in an attempt to remove stuff that would upset a soldier. Imagine the trolls from WBC sending a pic of themselves protesting a military funeral... easier to just remove all inserts instead of screening each one.

See, this bothers me. I've donated a few times to send care packages to troops...baby wipes, candy & gum, beef jerky, DVDs.

I don't agree with many of our foreign policies, and even though many of the guys in the field aren't folks I'd choose to associate with, I support them, because they are doing a job that I would never do, and would fail at, miserably.

We make all this BS talk about TEH MURKIN TRUUPS being our most valuable resource, yet they have to rely on donations for creature comforts?

Our local jails here are pretty lenient about mail, they'll just get pissy if there's a lot of perfume on them.

What's amusing is you can mail for free (cost of a stamp) but if you actually go to the jail to drop off pictures or letters they charge money for "processing".

The rules do seem to be designed to prevent any sort of personal touch. And don't even think about sending them home baked cookies. Every other conflict in the entire history of the USA, home baked goods could be sent, but now American civilian Moms are so treacherous; allowing that would just be asking for poisoned soldiers.

Eh not exactly true. You can't send baked goods randomly in care packages but if you know someone over there your free to send baked goods.
Although from experience Wet Wipes, Socks, Smokes (Will be distributed to those who "need" it), caffine of all kinds (energy drinks), and canned goods (think chunkyman soup) are the hot commodities when it comes to care packages and is the most enthusiastically recieved. I did get some baked cookies while I was in afghanistan and I wish I hadn't... Military mail isn't the most timely of delivery systems and by the time my cookies arrived they were better off used as paper weights... hard as rocks and nearly as heavy, probably not to healthy to eat either, so that could be another reason they tell you not to send baked goods.

I'll say this again.

FARK the Red Cross. Do not in any way, shape or form associate with them. Not even slightly. They don't deserve one red cent of your money no matter what they say they are doing. There are and always has been a lot of different ways to send care packages that have nothing to do with the Red Cross.

Who enjoys getting a card not in an envelope? These rules/guidelines are just sad...

2012-12-01 10:12:17 PM
From my own experience, cards like these were so generic, impersonal and cookie cutter like due to restrictions, they were treated like add inserts in a magazine. Sad, because we knew peoples hearts were in the right place.

A much better option is http://www.anysoldier.com, here you can send directly to a service member from any branch serving over seas who has signed up with the website. I look for those serving in the most remote outposts (COP or FOB) to send to as opposed to a major base like Bagram, Manas, etc. which already has 99% of everything people would want already especially if the Air force is located on base too.

Any mail at these remote COPs is like Christmas ANY time of year.

Dear Soldier,

The war that you are fighting should have ended a decade ago. It has only been continued because it allows U.S. government officials to raid the treasury to support the military industrial complex which in turn funnels money into their campaigns . Meanwhile as you sweat and bleed in the desert, your most senior commander was caught in an affair. Instead of facing justice under the UCMJ he was sent to Afghanistan so that he would be out of the public eye until his criminal activity is forgotten. This affair was discovered as a result of the investigation of a former senior commander's affair. These relationships are a violation of the very same UCMJ that will be used to imprison you if you are involved in a combat action that the American press deems unacceptable.

Christmas for Americans is traditionally a time for families to be together, yet you are denied even this simple pleasure so that the politicians can continue to erode out civil rights and the wealthy can book more profits on the backs of you and your fellow citizens. I know that you joined our armed forces because you love your country and you want your life to have meaning. Unfortunately your noble sacrifice has been co opted by the greed of a ruling class that will accuse you of "just wanting a handout" when you attempt to use the benefits that you so rightly deserve.

Meanwhile this Christmas the news media focuses on people lined up for "black friday deals," while your comrades corpses are dumped into their graves with scarcely a mention in their hometown paper. Americans have forgotten you.

This Christmas I urge you to do the right thing. Look around you, see the suffering that our ruling class is causing to the innocent. I also urge you to understand that your enemy is not the people of Afghanistan. They want only the opportunity to live without the constant fear of a so called surgical strikes that kill more civilians than combatants.

Please help put a stop to this imoral waste of life and treasure in the way that only you can. Refuse to go on patrols, refuse to maim and kill civilians, and target your field grade and general officers. It is the only moral choice.

God Bless you and Merry Christmas,

A Veteran

Americans haven't forgotten you. Politicians may wish to forget.Corporations might wish we would all forget, but Americans remember. Civilians do not always know how to best support troops and veterans though. Among the uncertainties, if you denounce the war, will you demoralize the soldier? And there are misconceptions. Some people think every veteran can walk into a VA hospital and receive treatment at any time. Why would veterans have difficulty receiving treatment when they can all be treated for free at the nearest VA hospital? Some groups are waiting for veterans to take the lead in proclaiming what they need. For instance, I have heard Quaker elders lament that during the Vietnam war, they knew what service was needed from them: draft counseling and assisting people with preparing to present themselves as conscientious objectors. How does such a group best serve an all-volunteer force? We sign the petitions provided by groups like Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace, but that hardly constitutes the hands on service to veterans that is likely warranted.

I agree with you otherwise. Sometimes, I illogically wish officers would begin to lead their people awol. I wish military personnel would strike and refuse to engage in any combat of any sort unless it is in the homeland. I wish they would refuse to be cogs in the racket. But I'll settle for them making demands. Be it expanded access to healthcare, grants rather than loans for education, grants rather than loans for housing,a transitional barracks for veterans in every state, a veterans' work corp, what ever it is: we need veterans to decide, draw up a list, and let us know in no uncertain terms "This is how you support the troops."

How is encouraging insider assassinations of flag officers going to help things in Afghanistan? You suggest that we should be valuing and treasuring life, yet you suggest we violate others' lives by murdering them?

I'm only suggesting valuing innocent life. Senior military officers are people who have dedicated their professional lives to killing.

I think if you want to see good effect on target you should aim artillery shells at BN and BDE Cp s. Seeing all computers and video screens explode followed by a rain of flaming officer parts would be way more entertaining than blowing up a mud hut full of women and children. I also think that a few high profile fraggings might reignite intrest in the war. It also might help these officers get a feel for the real risks of war. Remember, the only General who died in Afghanistan was a long time smoker who had a heart attack.
